Having trouble selling my 2007 TL Type-S
I'm not sure if my expectations are too high for the value of my car, but I've had some trouble selling it. I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on what you think i should do, and to ask what you guys think I should be selling it for. Info about my car:
2007 TL Type-S. Black exterior, gray interior
-it has just under 111K miles on it (most are highway miles. i travel a lot)
-No accidents (I also have a clean carfax for people to see)
-Maintained regularly. Only at honda and acura dealers
-The condition of the car is great. The back seat was never used by me so it literally looks brand new. no cracks in the dash or leather
-one minor ding on the car from a parking lot, one scratch on the left side of the car (from previous owner-not sure what happened there)
-drives very well. one could never guess that it had so many miles on it just by driving it
-recently replaced tires and brakes and alignment
It has been listed on craigslist (in the Tampa Bay, FL area) since the end of March. I only got two emails (one was someone who didn't seem like he was serious, sent me a lowball offer. the other came and test drove it and hasn't called back since then)
I would like to know what you guys think about the value of the car. I know what kbb says but i would like to hear your opinion based on your experience with this kind of car.
Feel free to PM me. I can give more details and pictures if you really want to see them. thanks in advance

Well first off you didn't tell us the price you have it listed for. Another item is has the big 105k service been completed? That's a big deal to people because if it hasn't been done then they will buy your car then have to drop another $1000 into it.
Take high quality pics with nice background, good description where it doesn't sound like the owner is an idiot. Present the car nicely. Have it immaculately clean when someone comes to see it. Lastly, black Type S's are the most common one so your going to have to price it accordingly, otherwise a potential buyer will move on to the next black Type S.
Hope this helps.

I'm assuming this is your car? http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/4523476028.html
You should clean up those headlights, it will make the car look much better.
And it looks like there are some marks on your window channel on the top? Perhaps leftover residue from previously having window visors? Or it could just be a reflection, can't tell.
Pics are a bit blurry and details hard to see.
And your interior color is taupe, not gray.
Price isn't bad though, seems to be a good deal for 14k

Thanks for your input
I've had it as low as $13,750. Kelly Blue Book has it at around $14,750 at "good" condition
Yes, I did that also
I'm not a professional photographer or anything but I have pretty decent pictures and the background is grass and trees. It looks good (to me lol)
I had it fully detailed inside and out by an auto detailer. Its been in the garage since then and hasn't been driven much, and i have it detailed about once a month
I did not know that the black one was the most common one
what do you think is a reasonable and fair amount of money i should expect from selling this car? I've had dealers offer me 10,000 for it but i didn't bite

Yes, that is leftover residue from having window visors (I took them off because i didn't like them. they were from the previous owner). That stuff is annoying to get off. any suggestions?
Thanks for correcting the color i had listed

I sold an s2000 about 2 weeks ago. I detailed the crap without making it looked detailed.... Cleaned all the interior really nicely, pressure washed/scrubbed entire engine bay before applying amoral, tire shine etc.. Do it evenly so it looks clean. DON'T use amoral in the interior at all.
Wait a day or 2 so it doesn't look freshly detailed. Rewrite your entire add and make it look somewhat professional without trying. Give as much detail as possible.
My car had 111k miles and was a year older than another one thats currently listed for same price.. His car had optional front lip, side skirts, spoiler, and speakers in headrest, plus he had 2 tone red and black interior. Mine sold within 2 weeks of being on CL for full asking price. Both cars are listed for 11k. Reason? little detail in his ad and terrible pictures. I uploaded the 20 pics CL allows then added the link below of my photobucket to show larger pics.

Try places other than craigslist? Perhaps ebay if you feel so inclined?
All I can say is, if it ain't working, you gotta do something different. And if you don't want to make the price different, try different approaches to your sales pitch.

Your price seems reasonable as a starting point. It could be that the serious buyers are not using Craigs list to shop for cars- I know I wouldn't.
I would use AutoTrader.com and definitely say that the 105k service has been done. People like an ad that shows pride of ownership and good maintenance. If you have owned the car for a number of years and have maintenance records say so. Based on your signature, you might have owned this car 5 years which is the majority of its life and worth saying.
If that doesn't work, then you need to lower your price in $250 or $500 increments until you generate more phone calls. I think AutoTrader is a better choice for finding a serious buyer anyway. I have sold a number of cars and AutoTrader does better than Craigs list and the newspaper based on my experience. I think of AutoTrader as the CarMax of private party sells- good web site with lots of search options.

Agree with paperboy and you might want to throw it up for sale here on AZ in the Black Market.

I would burn past your add because you dont show pride in the car. the add looked like it was a copy and paste of the dealer sticker. take some personal pride in the add and that shows you take pride in your car.
go into detail about the nice things and work, Timing and Water pump done "X" miles ago (receipts in hand). All work done at local Honda / Acura shops with Clean Carfax to show.
Auto Trader is good for some, I have never had any luck with it. I have always sold every car on craigslist with a well written add, and some good quality pics. The more you take and upload the more interested a buyer is to come out cause they dont think you are hiding something.
Also, May go without saying but check your junk mail for people interested. recently Craigslist has had a huge shift to junk mail. I posted one of my project cars (1992 VW Corrado) and didn't get any leads in a week and was like WTF! checked my junk mail and had 20 e-mails to reply to about it.

thanks for everyone's feedback. here's what I'm planning on doing:
-I'm going to take some nicer pictures
-Post a new craigslist ad with as much relevant information as I can possibly think of
-I'll wait three weeks. If I still don't have any luck, i'll use autotrader

The price seems fair, and I think the pictures are fine. Should sell soon. Good luck!

Not likely. The 6-Speed is a different breed - much more coveted because they are more rare. Of course condition and all the other normal used car things come into play (condition, mileage, accidents, etc....).

You may be exempt from this as you have been a registered member for coming up on 5 years...............

Jeez, you're doing a fine job of eliminating potential buyers that want to haul their families. Move your front seats up...would you want to sit back there if you saw that photo.
#27
very good point. I didn't think of that, and I usually have my seat farther back than most people i know. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll have to retake some of those pictures soon
