Footwell LED Wiring (Dome light trigger?)
Alright, so my LEDs are coming in tommorow (well, scheduled to).
I'll be making a DIY for this mod so you'll get credited if you offer some tips heheh
If I have it correct, I'll have 4 LED strips. 2 front, 2 back.
EACH strip comes with two wires, positive and negative, red and black.
I want them ALL to come on (triggered) by the dome lights.
That means when I open my driver door, they all come on.
Or when I open one of my rear doors, they all come on.
Also if I unlock and lock my car they will come on (even though no ones inside to see them when I lock and unlock my car lol)
So the first step would probably be wiring all the LED strips together, right?
So they act as one whole unit and turn on and off as a group?
How would I wire them together?
Would I essentially just use T-Taps and a lot of wire, and just tap them all together?
Also, which wire do I tap into for the domes?
I know I'll need a + and - wire to tap into.
I was also thinking if this method would work:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/puddle-light-wiring-up-schematics-detailed-pics-835659/
He tapped the NEGATIVE into the "dome supervision" wire, but mentions I need a CONSTANT ON positive source (such as battery). I don't know what wire to do that and I'm not running wires through the firewall.
Thanks!
YES I AM A NOOB. Feel free to laugh. That's why I make DIYs, so noobs like me can get full detail on what to do =D

Hhhhmm supposedly Fuse #32 on the driver fusebox is a constant ON positive source.
Wonder if I can wire the positive to Fuse #32 and the negative to the "dome supervision" behind the fusebox for the trigger.

When I did my footwells, I wanted the lights to fade in/out with the domes and also to provide ambient lighting whilst driving, so it took a couple of relays for me to get that. If you are just wanting to do footwells which operate (fade) with the doors, then you'll probably want to tap the dome light above the back seat. That will guarantee that you have the proper fade effect rather than just an "instant-on" which you will get from the domelight supervision wire. As far as I know, that is the easiest solution to what you're asking. The domelight fade output is (-), so you will probably want to tap a fuse (exactly what you were proposing) for the constant +12v.

Thanks guys!
Supposedly the dome supervision wire DOES dim out the LEDs (confirmed by vlad and some TSX guys).
I'll be doing it that method, then =)
Too bad my LEDs didn't come today.
Hopefully tommorow!
One BIG question though:
What fuse rating should I use for my 4 LED strips?
I need to know which one to put in my "add-a-fuse" lol

Here's mine that I did a few weeks back. I tapped into the ignition fuse with an add a fuse. They come on whenever I stick my key in the ignition on 2nd position and they always stay on when driving. I personally have them like that. I could of just tap them into the dome lights but chose not to. Here are mines.. Like one of the above posters said, 7.5amp fuse is enough.
