Does your TL have the transmission whine?
Hello, just wondering does your TL have the transmission whine especially from 45mph to 65 mph? I wonder if this sound is normal it only whines when I accelerate. My model is 2005 base 5 speed auto. Thanks

Mine did, it was one of the first things I noticed when I looked at the car, I had my mechanic friend check it out and he said it's common with Hondas. I did a 1x3 with Redline Racing (Type F) and I don't hear it anymore.

My 04 does this as well. I just noticed it because I always drive with cruise control, even in the city, and I hear this really faint whistling noise when I have it on, but when I hit cancel it goes away. So I'd say it does it on acceleration and for some reason maintaining the same speed as well.
There's also a TSB on a humming noise that happens between 50-60 MPH. You can look through the TSBs posted on this board if you want to find it. It basically says that between these speeds there's a vibration from the engine that causes a humming noise and they can install something to absorb this vibration.

I bought my TL brand new and it had the whine then. Still has it. If anything it got just a little quieter with the Redline fluid but not much. It definitely hasn't gotten worse in 117,000 miles.
If you're interested, you can figure out whether it's the torque converter or not. Powerbrake gently with the car in drive and sitting still. You may hear a hiss from the converter but there shouldn't be a whine. Listen to the transmission while it's in neutral. Mine has a whine in neutral/park that goes away when I put it into gear. It's just one of the shafts freewheeling making some noise until you engage the clutches and stop it from spinning.
My other whine is under acceleration. It's normal, nothing to worry about unless it gets worse.

Does the automatic have separate differential fluid?
My 6-speed actually has a little whine while driving around at parking lot speed. Kind of annoying , not sure if it was always there but I think I started hearing it when I removed the intake resonator. If you have an intake thats probably making it louder too but I'm not sure.
A few years back on my Acura Legend a "friend" replaced my differential fluid and didnt fill it up to the to the right level. 40,000 miles later I started hearing a whine around 30-50mph. It was not terribly loud but at the time the Legend was my only car so it had to be fixed. The legend differentials never have issues usually so I picked up a used for 50 bucks and spent a weekend swapping it out. I'm at 230,000 now about 70,000 miles since the swap and not a single whine.
Take a look at the wear on the teeth below which was ultimately creating the whine. Even with multiple fluid changes before finally swapping out the whine persisted.
