Red face Is it dangerous to drive with a faulty AP/TP sensor??

apparently, mine went out yesterday. The car went into "limp mode" and wouldn't accelerate much at a stop light. I pulled over, turned off, restarted, and drove home basically normally. I drove it 3 miles to a shop today to have the code read, and it said throttle position/accelerator pedal sensor.

My question is: this girl wants me to come see her, but she lives 40 miles away, mostly highway here in Atlanta. Could the car go into limp mode while going 55+ on the interstate? Or does it just happen when you make a full stop and accelerate again?

Mods, I posted in this section because I need to make a decision soon whether or not to drive my TL or old Accord (really don't want to drive the Accord because it's lowered and the A/C doesn't work) and was hoping someone would respond here more quickly than the problems/fixes forums.

also, is the throttle position sensor and accelerator pedal sensor the same thing??

nothing wrong with driving in limp mode. you wont be able to accelerate quickly and cant go past a certain speed. thats it.

Its funny this thread came up because 3 days ago this happened to me and I got the codes read and came up as the throttle sensor and I was driving last night after my car was fine for 3 days and it happened again... its not even limp mode I couldn't go over 35mph (and it took a half mile to get to that speed) and my car wouldn't get out of second gear. Also another thing I noticed was when putting the car into park, reverse or neutral or going for 1st to 2nd the car Bangs in an out of the gears and its bangs hard to...Im tired of fixing things on my car so this just gives me a reason to get something new.

that's not very reassuring. I still don't know what I need to replace to fix this problem..........

throttle position sensor?

ap sensor?

replace entire throttle body?

shoot myself?
