Buying advice for an '07 Type-S 6 MT needed!
Hi All,
I've been looking at an '07 TL Type-S MT(upgrade from my '04 TSX MT) with 42k on the clock. However, when I took it out for a test drive, I realized,
-- the tires were worn out badly, and a little off alignment
-- the leather seats needed to be polished up a bit and
-- most importantly, the sun roof seemed to be leaking air while going at back road speeds (~45 mph)
The paint had a couple nicks but nothing too terrible.
So i brought this up to the sales guy at the acura dealership asking if these things would be fixed before I buy the car and he says probably not since its alot of work to put into it to sell it.
So a couple weeks go by and i call him back and he says that eventhough its an acura certified car they're not going to sell it as such and will just auction it off.
The asking price for this car is $24600. Now my dillemma is if its a good idea to buy this, or make an offer for 22,000 and then have acura cover all the warranty issues(like the sunroof) and change out the tires myself once its in my possession.. and possibly buy an extended warranty.
That way I could get it a bit cheaper and Acura is still bound by the warranty since its well within the expiry date and mileage.
Any thoughts/suggestions as to how wise this would be?
Thanks much!

Nikura, if they've had the car for at least a couple more weeks, offer them a lower price and see what they say. The leather seats and the sunroof should be covered by warranty. You'll need to replace the tires yourself, but if you save enough money with a low offer, it will help pay for the tires.

Thats exactly what I was thinking! I just didnt know if I was going to end up with a boat anchor. I guess Ill have to go over tomorrow and see if they will bite. Is there anyway of finding out if the sunroof air leak would definitely be covered under warranty? Thanks for the quick reply btw.

It shouldn't be a problem to get that covered under warranty. Especially since you would be buying it that way. I'm just flabbergasted that the dealership doesn't want to clean up a Type S for sale.

Yea.. im surprised as well.. they seem very uninterested in selling this car.. I quote the sales guy "Yea we're not going to put in the work required, we'll just auction it off". And this is a nighthawk black with black interior 6MT. Pretty rare to find one of these..
So i think i'll throw out a number, about 22k (i dont think they'll get much more than that if they auction it) and see if they'll sell it to me.

Yes, a manual, black Type S is difficult to find. There might be more than meets the eye with this car. Ask for a Carfax first.
