Broken front motor mount on '05 TL

Broken front motor mount on '05 TL
I have an '05 TL Automatic with 116k miles that I've bought new and have kept in pretty good shape. I went into the dealer today and they said my front motor mount was broken and he quoted me $770.97 for the repair.
Seems excessive so I told him to hold off for now.
Couple of questions:
-How critical is this repair? I assume pretty important, but out of curiosity, what happens if I don't get it repaired?
-What's the timeframe that I should get it repaired in?
-Is this a problem other '05 TL owners have had?
-In doing some reading here, I see recommendations for Innovative motor mounts that are warrantied for life. Should I go for those? I don't mind the slightly bumpier ride which some posters talk about.
-If I'm going to do the repair, should I just have all the mounts replaced?
-How much should this cost me. I am not a DIY guy...
Thanks for the help!

hi!
- How critical? a car is a machine with moving parts, if you let a broken part go for long enough, it will help contribute to other broken parts....namely the other engine mounts, if they are not already broken.
- yes, there are aftermarket mounts. In my opinion, the aftermarket mounts are designed a whole lot better than Honda's. As in, they will last much much longer because of the stout design.
-Now, because of this said design, the car's chassis will be a bit stiffer. I chose to go with the 75a durometer poly insert. at a stop light and with the A/C on, I can feel a solid vibration through the steering wheel. NO DOUBT passengers feel this vibrating sensation. call it a free massage chair. I could not tell you about the lesser durometer inserts because I dont have them.
-Yes, get all mounts replaced. if you buy the aftermarket ones, it comes with all three.

I ran for a while with blown motor mounts, it's not the end of the world but it should be addressed soon. When one motor mount is blown you place more stress on the other mounts, letting it go will shorten the life of the rest of the mount since 1 of the 3 motor mounts is not doing it's job.
-What's the timeframe that I should get it repaired in?
The sooner the better.
-Is this a problem other '05 TL owners have had?
All OEM TL motor mounts seems to have a finite life. Same goes with any rubber parts/bushing they will eventually need to be replaced.

My car is a DD and I didn't want my teeth rattling, I went OEM. I went with hard rubber hard-race motor mounts on my integra, my fun car, and that thing rattles like nobody's business. This is subjective though.

New front mount runs $160, and figure $85 and hour for shop time. The front motor mount doesn't take that long to replace. If you have the budget I recommend replacing them all at one, the rear once a is pain to change.

They also quoted me an additional $1,300 to replace the Power Steering Pump, Reservoir and two power steering hose/lines.
I had a flat in one of my tires and they said my remaining 3 tires were at 2/32nds and 3/32nds so they recommended I swap out the tires, quoting $930 for the tires and $89 for the alignment. I went to Discount Tire and got the same tires installed for $700. As an aside, Discount Tire measured 4/32nds and 5/32nds for the tires. I still had to fix the flat, and wanted to avoid another trip to replace the tires so just did all 4 anyways.
When you add up the quotes for the Motor Mount, Power Steering, Tires and Oil Change (which I went in for in the first place), I was hit with a quote of $3,458 to do everything. That's probably more than 50% of the value of the car...
To their credit, they identified all these issues (and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that these are real issues) which I didn't know about before.

Is something wrong with the power steering such as a leak? You can buy the new seals from acura/honda for around $40 and replace them yourself! There's a youtube video on how to do it!
Screw paying that much money for a new pump when you don't need it!

I need a new front and side mount. I just bought the full set from xlr8 w/ free shipping. Was only $20 dollar difference from just buying the front and side separately w/o the free shipping. Thanks Xlr8.

you prob won't want that rear xlr8 mount. it provides so much more vibration at idle and it's crazy when the AC is on. i installed all 3 xlr8 ones but put the rear back to oem once i saw how much vibration there was (rear is worst one). fyi the mounts were already broken in.

Our labor rate is $96/hr
We don't do much with tires, but we do them... We also don't up-sell or recommend unnecessary parts/maintenance/repairs
The motor mount should be about $300 for the part and labor. I'm fortunate to get parts at cost and the shop/lifts/machines at my disposal
If all that is needed for the car is the mount and tires, isn't that repair more of an investment? A new car would likely come with substantial monthly payments... Along with required maintenance too!
The power steering pump and hoses are another issue... But tires and a mount? Piece of cake. After they're replaced, do a nice detail on your car and it will all have been worth it

Yea. I dont plan on putting the rear one on. Thats why I was trying to buy the front and side separately. Just bought the whole kit bc it qualified for free shipping, price difference was 20 bucks. I already have the nrg torque damper that I swapped over from my 7gen accord.
Also heard the vibrations arent as bad on the 6mt. Crossing my fingers it not unbearable. I got the 62a ones.

Sockr1, did using a rear OEM + front/side xlr8 make it so that the vibration was much less? Why not just go all OEM then? Do you get the performance improvement from just the front and side without the additional vibration?

After reading this, I'm leaning towards just going OEM.

However my car has much more power than yours (maybe 70-80 hp) and I would not make the upgrade If I were you just go OEM. The vibration difference will be very noticeable for you and won't have much performance impact since you have what seems to be a stock automatic car

you can change the front mount fairly easily on the car. it takes the brunt of the abuse (engine presses into it when you accelerate). 116K is a good run on that mount

I did this on my 07 Accord V6, it's about the same for TL. Front OEM is about $120, side mount you can go aftermarket because it's a solid rubber mount. $770 to replace the front mount is stupid expensive. You can do this yourself with borrowed tools if you don't have them. You need:
- 1 hydraulic jack
- 1 piece of wood
- 14mm and 17mm short and long sockets
- 3/8 long extensions
- 3/8 swivel joint
- mid range torque wrench

Haven't had the front go, but the right went out on mine. Drove it that way for about 6mo, like a dummy, assuming it was something loose in the suspension. Thank goodness for sites like this that lay out a lot of information and experience. Really makes it easy if you are mechanically inclined to get motivated.
