7 bills for BSM's is a straight ripoff to begin with. I don't think anyone in his right mind would even consider that amount and I don't see how the dealership can justify that price. As stated in previous posts, you can find them cheaper should you decide differently.

For sure - there is NO way I'm payin' the dealer $700 for them. I did get a pretty amazing deal from them on the car itself and a pretty good discount on the all inclusive [ex-wear items] warranty so I figure they must try and ream folks on the accessories , Through info in this post [thanks folks ] and hours and hours of searching this forum I'm getting a good handle on where to buy accessories and what pricing should be. As I said above, for $700 I can get BSM's, Sirius installed AND 20% tint all around. Like the saying goes " I might have been born at night .... .but not LAST night" lol! Thanks!

$140 shipped from Acura of Escondido on eBay and DIY. Yea, for $700 (even if it's canadian) I wouldn't do it either.

I think a lot has to do with where you live. NYC or any major city is much different than East Bum F--k Nebraska. Bottom line your car is only as safe as the moron parked next to you.

Looks are a personal thing. I like the looks of the BSM. But got them as part of the deal when I made the offer. Get them and istall yourself.

Thanks. Yes I see the debate is on again. I had the bsm on my nbp, and I though it did not detract from the profile one bit.
M35x has treated me nicely. Ride is completely compliant, and soaks up every road nuisance. Its like riding in a combination of a 1965 cadillac super soft suspension, but with the road feel of a sports sedan. I am completely delighted, and still growing in on its looks. Zero problems, since the initial delivery problems were fixed.
I dont want to go into details, because I wil catch a lot of flak. Afterall , this is an acura enthusiasts site. But I do like to keep up on whats going on, especially with the new york drivers, since a lot of problems we have in general.
I took an audi a6 for a test drive yesterday, to see how it felt again, after having m35 for almost three months, and now I can say, I am completely disappointed in how the a6 drives. It felt like I was driving a truck. The steering, felt unresponsive, going around turns, seemed to have flat spots all around the steering spectrum, road noise was pronounced, rear seat room, very small, and I thought even though the dash is very well put together, not attractive and inviting at all. But the handling in my opinion, I was surpirised at the feel in this car. It felt like the acura, would run rings around it, on an obstacle course. My dad was thinking about buying one, thats why we went for a test drive.
Hes now looking back to getting another camry, accord, avalon. LOL But I know hes going to wind up with a toyota highlander, because hes been ogling them since three years ago. Anyone notice how nice the highlanders paint job is. Everyone I see is still naturally shiney, and glistening all the time, even when dirty. I guess he cant go too wrong with the highlander. Probably only be good for 250,000 miles and then go bad.

Stay safe out there.

Stay safe

flatfoot, sorry for the misunderstanding. It's actually Northern California (NorCal). I've wasn't aware that NC was also referred to as NorCal Tthough I've passed through there on many occassions during my service years.

No, it was my misunderstanding. I should have realized norcal is northern california. My bad. But I did live North or Northern California for a bit. (Newport, Oregon).

In MHO .. I'm not sure they offer a lot of protection ...

Too many cars, SUVs, trucks, etc have doors that have different heights, door shapes, etc ... and will come into contact with the sheet metal anyway.

On darker colors they seem to stand out less ... light er colors ... my eyes are immediate drawn to the BSMs.

For $700 forget it .... If you're careful parking away from the crowds and still get a ding, repair it and move on.

No Puffy Lumpers for me. It creates too many lines on the side of the car...very distracting visually....and in 2.5 years of ownership I have no door dings. (Bows and prays to the god of parking lot dings.....)

UPDATE: So there's some good news and some bad news on this topic. Bad news is I got a door ding on the weekend . Good news is a buddy hooked me up with a great paintless dent repair guy who only charged me $40 to fix it .

Even 5 or 6 repairs and I'll still be on the right side of the $700 the dealer wanted for BSM's AND I can use that for a Comptech rear sway bar .

I have an 06 TL and went through the same dilemma as you about the BSM's. I decided against them, as NeuronBob stated, they are visually distracting. 2 lines down the car doesn't look all that great. It's up to me to park carefully. I have an MR2 spyder, also w/o BSM's and I'm just really careful about where I park.
Also, a valet will NEVER touch my car (had a bad experience with my 00TL and a valet-scratched my bumper- had the inherent, but transient desire to kill him-OK not kill, but open a can of Whoop Ass on him at the time!).

Enjoy the car- you can't babysit it 24/7- dents may occur, but they are fixable.
I agree with everyone who states the BSM's won't help.

Holy schneike's... Acura dealers are much like Harley Davidson dealers.

The BSM are $140, and they come with instruction good enough that a 1 armed monkey could linstall them.

Another tip I've learned that will help me avoid dings without having BSM"s - get the G/F to stick to drivng the X3 I bought her and have her stay the hell away from my TL . I just chalked this ding up as a "life learning lesson" lol!

I'm somewhat bias because I now have them on the TL and had them on my previous Accord and for good reason... In fact, I had told the dealer that I wouldn't take the car unless they threw them in for free w/ installation and they did. However in US dollars, with installation is only $230 (Ref: Acura eStore).

I have had so may idiots ding my doors - even if I park at the last spot on the lot, someone will inevitably find me and open their door on my car. It's happened way too many times.

This is how I would think of it (...just my ):
Do you want to spend $700 now and be pro-active or do you want to wait to pay $1,000 (+/-) for the ding repair? Because I found out from my Accord that it's expensive; the damage may not look like a lot, but if the dings are where they can't do the suction dent removal system on it then it requires them to take the panel off, repair it, then paint it again (yada, yada, yada...).

And I don't think they look bad at all; it gives the car more definition....

Just my tiny thought for the day....

I was about to get my side molding for my Anthracite.
Again, its your personal choice, for me it looks better with the side molding.

Many people disagree with it but I would go for it soon.

As for the price...$700!!! That is just crazy. I bought the whole under spoiler for $800 shipped and installed myself. Lip spoiler cost me only $120 bucks. This side modling, I can get it for about $100 ~ $120. Installation for all the honda external parts is very simple. I never done it but I was able to do it myself.

$700 bucks, if any dealer offered me to install side molding for $700 bucks, I would slap the $hit out of his face and tell him to go back to school.

Again, if I were you, I would play along and start negociate from $80 bucks...hahahhaa...

I would say $80~$120 bucsk for side molding (painted) and DIY.
Mine will be on shortly!!

P.S. Dont care about what other people say, as long as you like, YOU LIKE!

I have them on and i love them. i think the BSM's makes the car look a bit more aggressive and they do protect from dings. TL's doors have pretty wide and flat surface where dings would stand out even more than some other cars.
And i got them installed by the dealer when i bought it for $225.
$700 is just a ripoff.

I have them on my 07 NBP and I like them. They complement the indent runing between the side markers and look nice.

I bought my 07 KBP Type S used and it had the BSM's on it. First thing I did was peel them damn things off. They dont flow right with anything on the car and also make it look too cluttered on the side. The car looks MUCH MUCH better with them off. As far as door dings I guess if your the kind of person that parks next to other cars then yeah maybe they will help. For me though I will not park in a place if my car would be susceptible to a door ding. No way in hell!

Cost: I negotiated a 10% discount off list and paid approx. $250 (CND) before taxes to have them installed. Not a bad deal.
