That's a matter of personal preference, but in reality, they're a potential safety issue. In certain heavy traffic situations, they might be the only way other drivers know your turn or lane change intentions. Why do you think they've become standard equipment now up and down the line? Why do you think I had my sidemarkers rewired to blink with the turn signals?

That has to be part of the hack. That bar graph is certainly not standard.

Y'all use turn signals in 'Jersey? 'round here if someone has their turn signal on it's broken from the factory. When I first got here (yeah, I'm a damn Yankee) I used them a few times, and realized that at least in Dallas if you use a turn signal as designed to signal your intention to move into another lane the most likely reaction was "Oh no mother f-er, you're not getting in front of me.". Fort Worth is slightly different, they'll actually slow down to half the speed limit when you're hoping that they'll speed up so you don't have to cut them off.

I do, but unfortunately most Jerzy drivers don't. If a cop wants to be a prick, he can legally give you a ticket for not using one.

But now that you live down in that part of the country where they call Elmer's Glue All, Elmer's Glue Y'all..........

If a cop wants to be a prick he's going to get you on something. Around here if you drive the speed limit on the freeway there's a good chance that you'll get rearended, 99% of the time unless you're doing 50 mph over the speed limit isn't really enforced... but every so often, someone will get pulled over on the freeway... and it causes a huge traffic jam, like Al Capone is getting arrested or something. And every so often when a section of highway gets just a little out of control they'll post one cop with a radar gun on one overpass, and line up 20 motorcycle cops on the next one, and they'll write a few hundred tickets in a couple of hours.
