Just did my first oil change on my '16 RLX hybrid and decided to do an analysis. This was the oil that the car came with when I purchased it with 13,3xx miles. The dealer said it was Mobil 1 0w20 but the analysis shows the additive package to not be of Mobil 1. This interval was run for 10,010 miles. OLM had just changed to 0%. Apparently the OLM in the hybrid goes down 10% every 1000 miles. 80% city driving on this run. Replaced oil with Royal Purple HPS 5w30 and filter with Mobil 1 M1-110. Here is the report. Still breaking in with the high wear metals.

To sum it up, the "metals" part is basically how much wear you have in your engine during that particular interval. Usually Iron tracks the highest since its the most abundant metal in an engine. Other two are aluminum and copper but they should be in much lesser quantity than iron. In this sample the wear metals are elevated because the engine has low mileage and is still breaking in. The second part "contaminants" are what can contaminate the oil. Silicon is basically dirt ingestion, if this is high it is a trigger to check your air filter for leaks. I'm surprised that its only 17ppm in this report because usually newer engines have higher silicon levels. The other two, potassium and sodium, if high can indicate coolant leakage into the engine. But some motor oils use sodium as an additive so it is imperative to look at both values. The last part is just additives that oil companies use such as ZDDP(Zinc and Phosphorus), most oils have it in the range of 800ppm. Calcium and Magnesium are usually detergents and they help keep engines clean and keep soot/dirt in suspension during an oil change interval. TBN is a value that lets you know if the oil is still serviceable. Anything that is lower than 1.0 is considered spent. So in this case the oil still have quite a bit of life left in it. Viscosity just lets you know if the oil sheared or thickened. In this case it stayed in the grade of 0w20. Hope this helps.
