Debris in shifter compartment? (RLX SH)
I don't think I've seen this on here before...
Last night I couldn't get the transmission to go into reverse in my garage. No response when pushing button...no engagement, no light, nothing. After going to Drive to Park to Drive a few times and trying Reverse in-between, it finally engaged and lit as normal. Of course, at this point my wife tells me it happened earlier in the day but forgot to mention it. Well, the message board lights up with a red transmission problem message, a blinking gear symbol in the message area, and a blind side system failure notice. But it seems to be driving the same as before all this nonsense happened. So, to be safe, I put it away for the night and arranged for a trip to the dealership this morning. FF to this morning's drive (about 25 mostly highway miles) to the dealer...didn't try reverse because I didn't need it, and all other alarms continue the same as the night before. No noticeable operating issues. Just got a call from dealer...they talked to Acura corp experts and were advised to disassemble console and clean out shifter area/linkage of debris that could be a crumb or something as small as hair. Acura says they know of this problem and are working on a fix. To be clear, they say this debris falls in from the top of the console around the buttons. Anyone hear anything about similar experiences?

Weird. Thankfully, never experienced this. The buttons look pretty tightly fitted, I don't see how lots of debris would get through.

So designing the cup holders next to this fragile push button gear selector was a brilliant idea? One smoothie dribble and you loose gear selection? I see a more robust gear selector on the drawing board.

When I first seen that the 2016 MDX had this new stupid gear selector I made this exact comment about how it was a really stupid idea to put electronic shift buttons right beside the cup holder. Let's face it, girls (in GENERAL) are much less careful to car cleanliness than us guys. So I imagine my wife/GF driving with a low fat, triple shot, soy, latte with coconut and spilling it on the shifter like it inevitably happens. Good luck with that one. Warranty won't cover because it's your fault, and I'm sure it's not cheap either. Let's not ignore the fact it could happen while you are far from home/even on a road trip. I'm sure that won't be very fun at all.
