Blind Spot System Malfunction

Twice in the past week, my right side (only) blind spot system has starteds furiously flashing with nothing in my blind spot - no cars, no close trees, nothing. Then it stops. The system works fine when there IS something in my blind spot, so it is still functional, but it now has these occasional bursts of false positives. Anyone seen this? I'm wondering if the radar sensor could be misaligned? Any ideas before I take the problem to the dealer?

There is a lot of information and procedures that have to do with the BSI, but they best be done by the service department. Some info that might be interesting below.... There is also a self diagnostics mode...its a little complicated (a sequence of a few buttons), if you would like to try:

pgeorg - Thanks for this good information and my offer of marriage still stands! I thought the sensors were on the rear of the bumper, not the side, so I can check that visually. But likely I will need the dealer to run these checks. I will ask them to do it when I go by to get my (lifetime of the car free) state inspection sticker this week. I will print out your instructions and give them to the shop foreman who works on my car; he will be impressed! Thanks again, and I will report back the diagnosis.

nice post pgeorg.

It looks like those BSI units are located underneath the rear bumper, as I'm not aware of any openings or panels in that area of the rear bumper. It looks like it's possible that "stuff" thrown up from the rear wheel wells can possibly cause interference with either BSI unit. Could just end up being something you clean up with the outside hose and hose gun.

You are correct holografique, i am thinking the same thing. Here is the BSI unit when you take off the bumper:

Follow up. Blind spot falsing got worse and so took the car in. They wound up replacing the right side radar unit and now no more falsing. As usual, Acura service is first rate.

^ nice. But remember, it's the dealers more so than "Acura" that determines how good your service experience is
