Road trip report

We just completed a 3 day weekend trip from Tucson. AZ to Orange County, CA. using I-8 and I-5
Starting Tucson elevation ~2,600 ft
Lowest elevation "a few feet below sea level" (don't remember exactly!) just west of El Centro, CA (Interstate 8 is the only US Interstate Highway to run below sea level!)
A couple of mountain passes at ~4,400 ft.
Elevation at destination ~200 ft
Highway speeds generally set with ACC at 3-5 mph over posted. (75 mph posted in most of AZ, 70 and 65 posted in CA). Maybe 20-25 miles on surface streets at destination.
Comfort mode, tire pressures at manufacturer's specs, using regular gas, 2 passengers, Climate Control on manual with A/C off, set to 58 degrees (to allow Idle-stop to function).
(we're having an extremely cool May here, highs in the 70s when it should be 100...delightful!)
Some heavy rain for the first 45 minutes leaving the San Diego area and climbing up the mountains toward AZ on Monday morning.
Starting Odometer: 4,126
Ending Odometer: 5,295 = 1,169 miles.
Gas consumed: 41.6 gallons of regular 87 octane ($2.65/gallon at Costco in Tucson $2.99 at Sam's Club in Yuma, AZ $3.69 at Costco in N County, San Diego)
Average for this trip: 28.1 mpg.
I am very impressed with how the RDX Advance FWD drove and performed. Very comfortable, quiet, and with great sounds! There are some significant grades, which were handled with ease, both up and down, speed never went more than 5 mph over set speed on downgrades. ACC works extremely well, as does LKAS.

Both wife and I have "sensitive" backs, and neither of us experienced any back pain at all.

Absolutely no issues with Infotainment system, using SiriusXM radio, and Samsung S8 connected via bluetooth. Several phone calls both in and out were fine... as expected.

BTW, today is my RDX's 4 month birthday. Only issue to date has been soft brake pedal, resolved by TSB.

I encourage others to post their road trip info in this thread...

I took a trip here in the rockies a few months ago. It has really steep grades, and really curvy roads... but that's the nature of the rockies.

The turbo in these make all the difference. That less dense low oxygen air is easily sucked in and turned into power.

I remember driving a few years back in my Mitsubishi Lancer Hatchback (non-turbo). Lighter car but had good horsepower and torque. It felt like the engine was struggling to catch it's breath the entire way up.

2019 RDX A-Spec SH-AWD made in September 2018 and that I took home in October. infotainment system updated to 1.0.7 around 12/15.

2018 Christmas weekend, took the RDX for a 4-day 1,200 miles road trip from Los Angeles to Zion National Park, to Page, AZ, to Las Vegas and then back (2 passengers). I mainly had navigation on the main screen and listening to XM.
No rain for this trip, but I have driven a few 35-mile trips in mild rain in November 2018 between LA and Orange county. The coldest temperature during the trip was probably in the mid 30's.

No issue during the trip and I cruised at around 80~85 mph when possible using 91 oct gas. Cabin temperature was set to 76 degree sync, both AC and heater worked great. The RDX was comfortable, except some road noise from the OEM Goodyear tires on certain road surface. I drove from LA to St George, UT on the first day, took more than 8 hours due to traffic on I-15 on the California side, but I got out of the RDX feeling fresh and not tired at all. Ran over a 10' or 12' aluminum A frame ladder (between the tires) on I-15 when passing through Las Vegas, but luckily did not caused any issue. ACC and LKAS worked fine day and night, except the LKAS had a hard time "seeing" the small lane line reflectors on a small section on I-15 south bound north of Las Vegas in the afternoon with sun setting.

The only issue with this trip was the Infotainment System. When driving from Page AZ to Las Vegas in the morning with the navigation on the main screen, about 30 min into the trip, I used the thumb wheel to change the XM station on the favorites. It did not work for the first two tries, so I tried again and the screen started acting up and going from bright to dim randomly (for the entire screen, not the night mode). With a message at the bottom saying "drive mode change not available". The XM radio was still working, but slow to respond to change volume and station. Sometimes, the touch pad was not responsive at all with no cursor on the screen. I then parked the car on the side of the street, turned off the engine for about 30 seconds, opened and then closed the door, then restarted the car and this did not solve the issue. At this time, the navigation was not working, with a message asking me to wait or to close it. I closed it and in a few minutes, it would show the map with the current location. I continued to drive like this for another 30 minutes and saw a new message on the screen "unfortunately, Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped" with option to click "Ok". After that, found a place to park and turned the car off, opened then closed the door again and the issue was the same. I also noticed that after entering the card and closed the door, the car did not show the initial greeting screen on the dash and did not make the sound. I continued to trip like this for another 30 minutes and parked for coffee break (about 20 min). This time, the system booted correctly and the issue was gone for the rest of the trip. This happened a few more times since then and almost all with the navigation is on the main screen. There was one time that this happened when the FM is on main screen and navigation on the small screen. I am waiting for the next update and then will do a factory reset and see if that would fix this issue.
