FOB Unlock Strength

Just got my new car and I've noticed that the car doesn't seem to unlock when I have the FOB in my work bag.

On my previous car I just kept it in the bag at all times and it would unlock when I was near.

But with the RDX it seems I need to actually take it out of the bag, which is surprising and inconvenient.

Is this consistent with others experiences? Am I missing something?

I’m not aware of a proximity unlock. I have to grab a door handle - any handle. You can however set it up to lock as you walk away.

Thanks.
i understand that part.
It's just that with the fob in my bag, it doesn't unlock when I put my hand on the handle. I have to actually take the key out (which kind of defeats the purpose!)

That is odd. I keep mine in my pocket but should try it in my bag as well.

Switch keys and see if the other key is better.

It could be the key, maybe a battery is weak, or just like you said, they might have limited strength.

Confirm the fob isn’t resting next to your cell phone. When I have my tlx fob and phone in the pocket it doesn’t always work.

I've been having this problem too! I look dumb putting my hand on the door and the door wont open! Interesting point above about cell phones. Mine is usually in my pocket with my cell phone. I wonder if that messes things up. I'd say like 30% of the time it doesnt open and I have to reach in my pocket and pull the key out and then it works. Will try keeping it away from my cell phone and seeing if that helps.

That portion of the operation is supposed to be very short range I think. Keeping the fob next to your body could very well detune it enough that range gets cut even more.

When I haveI have my fob in the same pocket of my cell phone, the handle proximity unlock often doesn't work with my 2016 TLX. Separate them, and no issue.

The manual says the doors may not unlock of the fob
Is too close or above/below the handle. So 🤷🏻♂️
