3,000+ mile west coast road trip & earthquake report!

The west coast is known for its very steep & high altitude mountainous ranges, winding/slalom like coasts, and hot desserts! Stress tested the car through the whole slew of things... and the car just took everything we threw at it with no problems! No overheating issues, surprisingly no CarPlay issues. Feel free to ask any questions!

Path: Seattle -> Portland -> San Francisco -> Big Sur -> LA -> Las Vegas -> Death Valley -> Yosemite -> Portland -> Seattle.

Things to note:
  • Through the mountain passes it had no issues. Previous cars would struggle and rev high to get through the mountains. No problems... I think I stayed below 4k rpm.
  • 110+ degree heat in Death Valley. No issues with AC or engine even getting close to overheating. The temperature meter stayed around 2/5 of the way up the entire time.
  • Thank god for remote start through the app. Saved our buns from burning on the hot days.
  • Super responsive when driving with intense altitude changes. It was FUN!
  • Car survived the Earthquake when we were in Yosemite!

one cool thing you can do is push unlock, let go then push and hold again and keep holding and it will open all the windows the sunroof until you stop holding, nice when you want to vent out all the heat remote start is better tho, although you could use it to crack the windows slightly to push out the heat, I wanna add remote start to mine, probably will do it before winter

I ran it with Premium -- the only downside was that only 91 octane was available in California. Couldn't really find 92/93 Octane like I do in Washington & Oregon!

I was surprised at how cool it actually ran. My temperature needle never went even to the half-way mark even when pushing it through the mountain passes, and even through the 110+ degree heat in the dessert.

Honestly, needed a stop for San Francisco. It's quite the drive from Portland. About 10 hours!

Death Valley was a stop from Las Vegas to Yosemite! I wanted to give the car a taste of the hottest heat and the heaviest air in the US. It was around 110+ with full on sun. The car surprisingly had no issues handling the heat.

So far, the worst I've experienced was 91 or 92 degrees with some humidity. I haven't used the AC on full blast, just 3 bars, but it's been decent. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with an additional 20 degrees of heat.

Great trip! We just got back from a similar route. San Diego --> San Luis Obispo --> Sonoma --> Portland --> Seattle .. and back.. Seattle --> Yreka/Shasta -->San Diego.
3135 total miles, 24.4mpg overall. Noticed a little boost to mpg (maybe 1mpg) when using 92 octane in Oregon and Washington. Car was so fun to drive through the mountains. Loved the ability to pass and keep pace up the hills. Overall, fun to drive on the trip.
Now i have over 8k miles on my 2019 RDX that I bought March 30. Been great. Needs it's first oil change.
