Used car inspections in Houston

For the past few weeks, I've been patiently looking around for a used 3rd Gen TL and I think I've finally found a couple. I recently moved out to West Houston so I'm not too familiar with the local mechanics.

Are there any mechanics that you guys would recommend? They don't have to be out on the westside of town and the price is not too much of an issue if they know their stuff.

Hope you find a trusty mechanic.

I would check tires, oil, body panels, brakes

if you could, post up some of the links to the cars you're considering...
we can do a picture inspection...meaning we can point out the obvious for you.

Thanks justn For background, I'm still a student so my budget is capped at $11.5k + TTL. Navi's are always a plus and AM SSM ASM NBP are the colors I like. Here are a couple I was looking at:

2004 Acura TL, 108k, $10k
http://www.momentumaudi.net/used/Acu...39acf8e684.htm
^^^A little worried about this one b/c of the price drop. It was originally listed at $11.9 and I talked it down to $10.4 two weeks ago. I just couldn't pull the trigger at the time though. Also the 4 owner thing scares me a little bit. Not sure what to think.

2004 Acura TL, 111k, $11k

Then there was another by owner that I was going to look at today, 2006 TL w/ 99k, Navi. Got sold last night. Could've been the one too.

I work in Cypress at a shop and we have a pre-purchase inspection. It takes about 4 hours and comes with a carfax. Let me know if I can help.

^nice vip!

I can understand you being a student and not having funds for a car.
Here's my main concern with both cars.

both cars are at 100k miles. There is a 105k service that needs to be performed. this includes timing belt and water pump. it can also include spark plug change and valve adjustments.

this service is very expenisve at the dealer. a little over a grand.
if the service has not been performed on these cars, I would negotiate a lower price point or get them to throw in the service.

if your timing belt snaps, thats the end of the engine.

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, I don't remember if the Momentum one has a new belt and I have no clue on the one in Georgetown b/c I'll be talking to them this afternoon. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress though.

I'm sure you can find better deals. Keep looking. For reference, I got mine with 87k miles in Nov 09 for 12.5k.

Unfortunately, I'm still looking around. I ditched the two cars that I mentioned last time b/c there are plenty of deals like those all over the Houston/Dallas/SA area. So now I'm looking for my perfect car (AM/SSM/NBP, navi, <100k miles), and the search has been a true test of my patience. There have been a few teases, like this one on Craigslist that never even bothered to call me back.

2004 Acura TL, ASM, navi, 79k, $14.5k
Its a stretch for me, but I bet that I could lower the way overpriced list value by a good amount. It has been sitting in their lot since Feb 8 <== good info to use as leverage?

2004 Acura TL, ASM, navi, 108k, $11.8k
The list price on this one is ridiculous for the condition. It has dents/paint damage on wheel well and a torn back seat. I got an avg estimate of ~$250 for seat repair and still waiting to hear back about dents. Judge away, haha.

It's not easy seeing all of those unmodded TLs zip past me as I go to work. Makes me wanna follow them until they park and toss a price at them to see if theyll take it But I know I'll be able to hold out until I find the one. You guys got any advice on places to look? I've been religiously checking craigslist, autotrader, cars.com, and ebay for the last two weeks. Not sure where else to go.
