I live in Texas and was wondering if it was legal to clear the headlights of the amber color or if there was a law against it. I have researched some but could not find a definitive answer. Thanks for the help

 

its illegal everywhere, and not just Texas.

 

Thanks thats what i figured. I have seen some that clear most of it but still have some amber on the headlights toward the back of the casing. Would that get you by? or will the stubborn state troopers still get me for it?

 

if there's orange in there, then it wouldnt be cleared right?
and Also would depend on the state trooper himself and his attitude and how far he wants to take it.

there are other ways to mimic the orange, like using switch back LEDs.
they'll light up white until you activate the blinker and then they become orange.

now that i know it is illegal to have completely cleared headlights i want to know if the link i just posted would be legal or not. it is a separate question to what i have previously stated.

Yes if you clear them out it is. However, if you have amber reflectors in the front (doesnt have to be in the headlights) but in the front bumper area then no.

Not true, it's a federal requirement that states they must be amber colored. There is no exception in FL that I know of...post a link.

 

same goes for tail lights with the red reflectors. but lets gets real, we all do it anyway. Smoked depos for over a year IN NYC! no problems.

 

My old headlights were cleared and I never got bothered for them, and they still passed inspection.

I live in Texas and have had cleared headlights for 2 years now and not a single problem. I was also using switchbacks with them (light up white, signals amber).

The next time you drive your car down a 2-way road try to look at the cars that are driving towards you and see if you can point out their amber reflectors in the front. Chances are that they are driving by so fast that you can't even tell if they have amber reflectors in the front or not.

At night time when everyone drives with their headlights on it's even more harder to see the amber reflector.

 

Lol , unless you were to specficialy point it out to someone,I bet only other tl enthusiests would even notice there is no amber diffusers in the headlights.

 

Thank you everyone for the info. Just wanted to make sure because there are a lot of small town cops that LOVE to nit pick these kinds of things where i am.

 

If you wind up with a fix it ticket or get hassled at inspection, tape an amber bicycle reflector to the bumper, then take it off afterwards. It has to light up amber and have an amber reflector but they don't have to be combined. I've had clear corners on all of my cars and never had an issues. I've seen people with blue turn signals... now that's asking for trouble.

I looked up before I pulled amber out of my headlamps, I run white lights in mine. I'll try find law page I pulled up & post link.

I know for a fact up in Maine you can run with no ambers. I've been running clear corners since July in my RL and have never had a problem.



It's a state based law. I'm pretty positive there is no federal law.

you will always see an amber reflector upfront mandated by the law and enacted through car manufactures....

NO U.S. car comes without an amber reflector..
the amber reflector can be in the headlights or on the car itself...as pointed out by the examples in this thread...

The amber is on the fender near the wheel well for the viper, hidden.And the tesla is most likely not American.

 

^^ MekoTL-username threw me off...anyone would be hard pressed to find an authority figure who would care about an amber reflector in your headlights or bumper, much less notice it wasn't there.

 

Could you imagine if a cop pulled u over, and said your missing a reflector. I would laugh so hard. Just depends what your doing. My friend was racing and got tickets for literally everything on his car because he was being stupid.

 

Driving in a sprited manner is fine,even racing- but there is time and place for everything, something most people tend to forget.

 

Tesla is definitely an American automaker. They're based out of CA.

I can understand that there's a federal mandate for this, however states enforcing the federal law is a different story.

One state may enforce the law and write tickets while another may not. It really varies from state to state in that regard.

 

I hope you know that "small section" you are referring to is a STOCK TL-S headlight. The base TL has the full big amber piece, and type s comes stock with that small amber only. That's all you need anyways the full on amber is excessive.

As long as you have an amber bulb you should be okay. Keep in mind the state book also hasnt been updated in ages. If you have something other than an amber bulb in there you will probably get pulled over if a cop is suspicious

Turn signals can emit WHITE or AMBER in the front
Must be red in the rear.

Does not have to be an AMBER bulb.

there's a piece of Ember by the fog light so that Tesla has amber as well so far no cars have not had any amber...
