MS is going to finally announce Windows Mobile 7 on Feb 15th in Barcelona, Spain at the Mobile World Conference. It's shaping up to be a big deal, they're even bringing in Steve <s>Jobs</s> Ballmer to do the keynote presentation. All we know so far is that it's supposed to have a very ZuneHD inspired interface called "Metro" and MS is supposed to be working closer with hardware makers and will have a stricter rules for what hardware can be used meaning you won't see Winmo7 on 100 different form factors. They're doing this in order to give a better more iPhone-like or Nexus One-like experience.

I'm not really interested in Winmo7 but I'm not crossing it off the list. If they have a Zune-like interface then they may have a hit on their hand, and I know MS is really taking this mobile space seriously and has thrown a lot of man power at it and done some internal organization to pull off the synergy between mobile, Zune and Xbox.

Also supposedly apps from 6.5 and earlier might not work with Winmo7 so this sound like a complete rewrite of everything which judging and how horrible Winmo is now a days that shit is needed BAD! I just want to know what this means for the ZuneHD and if all the new stuff will come down to the Zune. I would think it would MS knows that can't have two incompatible mobile OS's I think Winmo7 will be based off of the ZuneHD and apps will be compatible across the devices. More details coming Monday at 9am EST, I hopefully WON'T be up to cover it. Let's see if Windows Mobile 7 can do for the Mobile OS what Windows 7 did for the desktop OS.
