Windows 7 can't play .jar file

WTF.

How can I fix this. Apparently Java is supposed to play this file, not fucking open everything that is in the .jar file. Whenever I double click on the file, it asks what I want to open it with, and I click java, and it asks if I want to install something from java, and then after I click yes, I get a fucking opoup that says:

What exactly is this file for? I believe .jar files are java compressed files, so I don't think it should "play". If anything, it would just open like winzip or winrar to show more files.

It's a link on my wife's online Master's degree program that has an embedded presentation. When she clicks the link on my XP laptop, it opens in Java and a presentation with voice-over opens and starts playing.

When I do the same thing with my Windows 7 laptop, it opens the file in another folder and shows the files in the link vice opening up the Java presentation. I have to confirm which JRE I have installed on my XP laptop, but this is annoying.

I did have build 23 (the latest version), but unchecked the box and downloaded build 7, and I still got the same problem.

XP has IE and it worked and opened the jar file.

Windows 7 laptop has Firefox and it would not open the file correctly.

Well I would try firefox on the XP machine to verify it works correctly there. It could just be the site doesn't like Firefox.

You could also just get the IEtab extension for firefox and try it on the 7 machine.

Sorry Whiskers. I asked for my wife's password so that I COULD PM you when I got home from work, and she would not give it to me. So I was done with it yesterday.

I might try to pick this up again tonight, because now she's using MY laptop to watch her classes, and I'll be damned if there is going to be a double-standard.

Could I maybe do it again tonight (assuming she gives me the password)?

Worked on Firefox on XP, but we already knew that it would because it worked on IE. Seems to have problems only with Windows 7.

Why would I do that if the file needs Java to open?
