iPods are no more expensive than any other brand of MP3 player, so why not an iPod?

Do a search of this forum. MP3 players and models are compared and talked about often. Lots of people wondering the same thing you are.

You can buy another brand of mp3 player. But there is no better MATCH out there than ipod and itunes. It is the easiest of use.

You can get a Nano for $150.

I have used IPODs and Creative Zens. Zen FTW.

Zen has FM radio built in, ability to edit playlists on the fly from the device. Menus during now playing (IPOD you have to back all the way out to the main menu to adjust playback settings, EQ, etc).

Hooked on phonics can work for you guys.

I have the Sansa Mp3 Player. I only need it for when I lift or for vacations. Holds about 200 songs. Plenty for me, small in size, and works great.

My Sony Ericsson W810i. Sounds much better than my iPod, has that booming bass that I like, came with a FM tuner and GREAT in-ear buds, essentially comes with a speaker, and best of all, it came FREE.... with a contract though. Picked up a Lexar 1gb memory card, and this thing works great.

I used to listen to those older Creative mp3 players, and the iPod does sound very good, but my phone sounds even better. You should consider getting a phone that has a mp3 playing capability.

Go compare a 8GB "Sansa e280" to a 8GB Nano and make this same statement.

Sansa advanages:
Plays movies
bigger screen
better battery life
You can replace the battery yourself!
FM radio
You can record the FM radio
Use it as a personal audio recorder (has built in mic)
Plays more audio formats
Doesn't scratch easily
Has a micro SD MEMORY CARD slot to add an addition 2GB of storage
And it's CHEAPER $180 for the Sansa, $240+ for the Ipod

Oh did I mention it has no DRM? lol

I own both, the Sansa is way better for the $$...

I am sure it respects DRM, just like the ipod. IPOD supports DRM, but only mp4 Fairplay, no other DRM service. This is why the others are FTW.

I did gobs of research before buying mine, I wanted something under or around $150. I settled on the Sansa 4 gig one. It was $160 and has a memory slot. I think one of the best features to the Sansa is that it does NOT have a hard drive, it's all solid state. No moving parts. If your an active person, you should certainly consider an MP3 player without a hard drive. Also the battery is fantastic! It lasts litterally for days. I left mine on after mowing the lawn and it was still playing three days later.

Now the 8 gig is only selling for 180? WOW. Screw the Ipod.

Did I mention the FM radio?

FTW?

DRM aside, the Sansa hands The Ipod nano it's ass. Maybe take a brief moment re-read my list above, Ipod doesn't do any of them. And you pay more for it...

The only thing the Ipod has over the Sansa E* series is it's thinner. That's all... and really both are so small already it's a moot point.

Love mine, and don't forget the battery life. I had a Samsung t809 before that also played music and the SE kicks the Samsung's butt on battery. It's great that I don't have to worry about carrying an mp3 player too, I don't leave the house without my phone, so if I want to listen to music, it's always right there.

WTF are you talking about Siggy? All others FTW means all others except IPOD. Try reading my posts again. I am not an APPLE fan at all.

I don't think it will. You just need to convert them yourself to MP3 @ a good bit rate (160kbps at the very least)

I think iTunes converts them when you load your music into the program, right?

I have no clue, because when i uploaded my music into the itunes library, itunes still plays WAV and MP3. I was just wondering if I should encode everything to AAC?

Yes, ipod supports AAC wrappers like mp4 m4a, and MP3. NO need to convert MP3s unless you want the "better" compression that the Apple wrappers provide.
