What DVD Copying Software do you use?

I am finally breaking into the DVD copying world, , but need some software to copy them. I have used DVD Copy XPress and it is ok but I wanted to hear everyone elses opinions on this one. Is there some software that copies the entire DVD, menu and all? DVD Copy XPress wouldjust copy the movie part on to a blank DVD.

Is it possible to use a DVD ripper like DVD Decryptor and then some DVD compatible burning software like Nero or Roxio to burn it on a disc or is the all in one copy software the way to go?

I am interested in hearing how ya'll do it and and info you could share would be appreciated.

What version of Nero do you have? I have nero 5 but I am currently using Nero 6 Enterprise edition. It only has miniDVD option and not a real dvd?

[QUOTE=I'm Rick James, B*tch]I am finally breaking into the DVD copying world, , but need some software to copy them.

Here's 3 sources for information:

http://www.doom9.net

http://www.vcdhelp.com

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...e/dvd_rippers/

Ripping DVDs is a fairly trivial thing, if you've come up through ripping MP3s and VCDs. If not, it can be daunting.

We don't bother to rip, nor do we visit P2Ps any more. Instead, our aDSL line gives us 3 full DVDs' worth of material every 24 hours, courtesy of NewsbinPro and Usenet. (See http://www.slyck.com for some overview of this stuff.)

Good luck!

I thought I had replied to this one already. Oops.

I usually use:

DVD Decrypter to save the DVD to the hard drive.
DVD Shrink to compress / remove, etc. any sections I need
Nero to write.

DVD Shrink can extract the discs, but I've had better luck with DVD Decrypter.

Also, for certain discs that just cannot be compressed well (Lord of the Rings: Return of the King at 3:30minutes), I use a hacked version of DVD Fab to split the original disc to two recordables. I also needed to do that with the Star Wars discs. It works just fine, except that the Scene selector won't work for the high numbered chapters that are on the second disc. However, the chapter numbers don't change on the second disc (Ch.32 is still 32).

Lung Fu Mo Shi, what problems have you had w/ DVDShrink that you have better luck w/ DVD Decrypter? I ask only because I've never had any problems w/ DVDShrink. I've also used Shrink to split large DVDs. Using the re-author option just grab the first n chapters, then do the remaining chapters on another disc.

I've had issues with DVDs being unreadble (i.e. screwed up menu) with the big, complicated TV series ones. Only once or twice. Besides, since I do a lot of assembly lining (compress one, while ripping the other) two different programs don't interfere with each other.

Bottom line: it's personal preference.

Shrink can split large DVDs like you mentioned, but you lose the menu. DVD Fab keeps it, places all "Bonus Material" on the first disc, and leaves the movie spread over the rest of the space. So at that point, the only borked item is the last half of the scene selector. I use it rarely, but it works.

I see. Thanks for the info. Losing the menu and bonus materials is generally my intent. I make backups of all my kids DVDs (and mine that I will watch frequently), removing the previews, menus, etc. So we just pop the DVD in and the movie plays with no crapola. I can see where that would be sub-optimal for TV series DVDs. The only times I've had to do splits was on longer films where I want to preserve the DTS soundtrack without recompression.

As an aside, I still think there is a market for $9.99 "Just the movie" versions of popular movies. I know Hollyweird thinks they're putting in all this value-add with the bonus materials (or so they say to justify high DVD prices), but honestly, 99% of it is junk.
