1x means 1xRTT with is the current setup at Verizon. It basically means 3G. I was just making the comment that most customers wouldn't even know what it means, why is it there to clutter the screen?
The crosshairs are for position location, you are correct. With the right equipment, a vendor can tell where you are using GPS and then act according. Nothing in placed today, this is planned for the future. So another misconception....that position location is for 911. Truth is 911-emergency tracking is ALWAYS ON and you can never turn it off in your handset...when you dial 911 and the local PSAP has the right equipment, they can track your location using GPS and the customer can't turn it off ever....it's the law.
Sprint created the crosshair two years ago...we don't use 1x and you can't use wireless faxes on our network. Just fyi.

I think the Verizon network is confusing, sometimes it works one way, sometimes another. Your phone is digital only so if you ever see signal bars, it's gotta be a digital signal for sure. The D is turned on whenever it is triggered by the phones roaming list that looks something like this example:
Denver: 1.Verizon(+) D=Yes
Denver: 2.Sprint(+) D=Yes
Denver: 3.Qwest(+) D=No
Denver: 4.US Cellular(-) D=No
Omaha....
For example, that way Verizon can say "when you see the D, roaming rates do not apply...." Phone looks for VZW service first, if it can't find it, look for Sprint, no Sprint then lock onto Qwest and turn off the D. Means Verizon and Sprint have roaming agreement; none with Qwest. Just an example, note that US Cellular is negative which would essentially prevent your phone from ever locking onto them ever (except 911). All CDMA phones work this way.
I just think the LG is poorly done and might be buggy.
