Yeah, I'm on dial-up for the first time in a while out here at the beach. I miss my FiOS.

It's pretty damned fast, yes.
Cox Northern Virginia users ... it should be an option to anybody who has cable modem service here.

I'm sure some people on here are subscribed to FIOS tv. The new (a few months) is absolutely terrible and slow. I don't know how they considered this an upgrade, more of a downgrade if you ask me. Looks like nobody at Verzion tested this before bringing it out.
What do you guys think?? Hopefully they will change it soon, anybody know?

That I would not know.
I have never had cable in my life so any interface is neat to me.

Billing Problems?
My neighbor got FIOS as soon as it was available. He is very happy with the performance, but is pulling his hair out about the billing. He did not get a bill until three months of service, and there have been many errors that he has spent alot of time trying to fix. Is this an unusual case?

I have FiOS tv, internet, and phone. I've been very satisfied the service. With HD-DVR w/media server, HBO, and Spanish package, I pay about $160 a month for service. That's cheaper than I was paying for FiOS internet & phone w/ DirecTV service. Also, Verizon is claiming 150 HD channels by year-end 2008 http://newscenter.verizon.com/press-...-fivefold.html

I have FIOS. Gotta say that I'm not as impressed with it as I thought I would be. Personally, I thought my old DSL was just as quick as the FIOS... Not really worth the money in my opinion.

We have FIOS, are on our third verizon router, and are still having router problems. Cable boxes have also crashed repeatedly. Service also sometimes slows down to like 30KBPS, but that may be the router again. This is why I am planning on running network cable around the house.
When it works its excellent, but we have had a bunch of hardware problems.

The customer service was HORRIBLE. Probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. After being on the usual hold for 20 minutes, I gave up the first time. The second time, 1 hour 20 minutes later... they scheduled a Tech to come out to my house. The only day they could do it was on a Tuesday morning. They promised between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. After 1:30 and nobody showing, I called trying to find out what happened. Nobody could tell me where a tech was or when I should expect him. They were clueless. At 5:30 pm that day, I got a call saying that the tech can't make it at all. REALLY....
Totally wasted work day.
A second Sunday appointment also came and went. Same thing.
Now I'm really pissed.
Finally, after yelling, screaming and threataning a lawsuit for lost wages, someone waived the magic support wand and a tech appeared, replacing both components. Funny, this time it literally only took them 20 minutes to get there.
What a total pain in the ass. Expect the same, Verizon has over-sold their service and cannot keep up with the demand.

Just had the triple play deal installed today and it seems to be working pretty well.
I am disappointed with the wireless in the router though. The wireless signal would just barely make it upstairs and when another PC could connect, it was so slooowwww!!! It took over 5 minutes just for the acurazine page to load up. This is only with one PC connected via wireless.
So I just disabled the wireless in the verizon box and connected my Linksys wireless to it and it works perfectly. Three PCs (all upstairs) connected to it fine. Excellent signal strength and I'm flying through the net.

Got a letter yesterday from Verizon that FIOS is finally available in our area after 3 long years of waiting.
I can't wait to put my order in, but before I do I have a question for those that already have it.
What do you guys think about the router that they install with their service? Is it an absolute requirement to use that router? Or is it possible to use a router of your choice like you can with DSL?
Do they give you admin access to make modifications to that router?
UGH, i'm so anxious to get the service now, but I want to be able to still have full control over my internal network.

The router blows if it's the Actiontec model.
You do have admin access but it is still shitty. A couple people here are using different routers. I know Soopa and JJ are.

As cool as it would be to have the 15Mb plan, I'm probably going to opt for the 5Mb.
And it is the Actiontec model that they still use for their service.
