Using non 850Mhz phones with Cingular?

Will non 850Mhz phones still work with Cingular in the NYC area? Will there be problems?

A few years back I had a T610 that I used with Cingular and it worked fine.

Must be 850mhz or 1900mhz GSM only.

As long as it operates on the 1900 mhz bandwidth, you'll be fine.

well your reception will be bad if you are in a 850mhz area, 1900 doesnt penetrate building as well as the lower frequency band.

in the nyc area you will not have good reception with just 1900. the reason your t610 worked fine without 850mhz is b/c cingular was using t-mobiles towers then and all t-mobiles towers are 1900mhz. now you will be using cingulars towers and at&t towers. all at&t towers in the nyc area are 850mhz.

Slooo97CL - you are right about that, but in nyc its worse b/c in some areas there are ONLY 850mhz towers so you will get bad reception outdoors as well.

T-Mobile is not adding any 850 towers...they just have roaming agreements with Cingular and other smaller carriers to provide coverage for the places that have sparse coverage.
