The US government has no problem using them.
I simply don't see how you're an IT guy when you're making these claims. It doesn't take an expert to see that 1333 mhz RAM is superior to 1066 mhz RAM or a 7200 RPM hard drive is faster than a 5400 RPM.
Basic facts that you have overlooked in my comparisons.
More advanced IT things like graphics cards, once again you have ignored. And in a GAMING laptop discussion.
So no, I won't 'take a break' from my PC. I'll stay here and make sure forum rules are followed. So far none have been broken by either you or me. We're having a discussion and there is disagreement.
End of story.

I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't know about IT stuff.
Interesting, well thats to their discredit then.

I'm not being rude at all. In fact, I've shown a large amount of patience dealing with you.

It shows up under Home as well not gaming. Just the way their website works got me confused as it didn't show GAMING. But Gaming is an advertising way of selling a laptop for more with the same specs as a non-gaming laptop.

Ok, I think I'm going to go with the Sony F Series. I just built one and upgraded just about everything for $1725. Not too bad. I'll let him get his own mouse, I think, because everyone is different in what they prefer. The only thing that is annoying is that there is no upgrade for Office. It only comes with Works. So now I have to buy Office separately.
Hopefully he won't get pissed at me for spending this money on him. All there is left to do is finish checking out.

Acer and Asus are not off-brands for personal laptops. They just don't cater much to the US business market.
No real FPS type of game would use a BT mouse or keyboard.
7 Ulitmate mostly adds networking features that have nothing to do with gaming.
The Macbook Pros come with: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB for video. For $2500 you can get dual GT 260m's in even a brand as expensive as Alienware.
That being said, Apple's prices are not as outrageous as they used to be.

Nothing fail about it when they have mostly the same internals as most higher end laptops, and per many reviews, they game just as good if not BETTER if the game supports MAC OS-X. For games that do not come in the Mac version you can do Bootcamp and have a dual boot system with Windows on the other side.
IF you know how to build your own system, macs lose in almost every category. Especially value. The internals are customizable, and you can buy wholesale.

at all this Mac stuff. I'm in IT, and I work with hundreds of Macs on a daily basis. As much as I love OS X and my iPod (because that matters, lol), I'd never buy a Mac with the intentions of gaming, ESPECIALLY if you plan on gaming under Windows anyway!!!
From an IT standpoint, I love Macs (OS X) because, simply put, they're overall easier to administer and maintain (especially in my environment). However, they're far from "the best".
If your #1 intent is gaming, go with a Windows based (cheaper) solution like what Luv did above (which, IMHO, she bought a VERY nice laptop for her bf!).

sorry, i'm not trying make you second guess your purchase, but if i were you i'd cancel that order and get the alienware m15x that i linked you to earlier. that sony laptop is very nice but sony in general is overpriced and the 310m graphics card is not very powerful, which is probably the most important part of a gaming laptop. the 310m card ranks probably around 100 while the 260gtx card on the alienware is probably around 20, in terms of benchmark rankings.
sony is a tiny bit like apple. their hardware is very nice and stylish but you're paying a lot of money for the stylish design which is basically the plastic or aluminum hardare case.
any version of windows 7 will have the chinese language pack.
a lot of people don't like dell which owns alienware but the alienware laptops are really powerful and a lot of serious gamers buy them. you can hate dell/alienware if you want, but they stand behind their product and you can call them directly to bitch at them and they'll actually try to satisfy you which is really hard with a lot of other companies.

I guess if it's not what he wants, he can return it. He really doesn't do much gaming anymore, so I think this is a decent machine for what he needs and the price wasn't too bad. I think he'll be happy no matter what, especially because he really didn't have the money to spend right now on a computer anyway. Thanks for all your help, guys. I'm sure any of the machines you recommended would work fine.

I don't know shit about computers, but my Macbook Pro sucks at gaming. I tossed that idea out the window a long time ago after I bought it. I strictly use it for school/editing photos.

OMG this thread makes my head hurt. I'm not going to continue this ridiculous debate. It isn't even a debate everyone except for one person agrees that PC > Mac when in comes to gaming.
Luv, I got some bad news for you....sorry. I cringed when I read the specs of that Sony F series. It's got a great processor, ram, screen but the graphics on it aren't very good for gaming. The Nvidia 310M is pretty much a rebranded Nvidia 210M which is an entry level graphics card not good for gaming. The 210m and 310m are almost exactly identical spec wise are not made for good gaming. I notice there's an option to upgrade the display on the Sony F series to a 1920x1200 screen with Nvidia 330M graphics. If you want that sony laptop then I'd do that. I would not get the 310m for gaming it's just not going to cut it. He'd be able to play some games at low quality setting and then some games he might not be able to play at very well at all.
Also if you wanted to make his PC compatible with more games in the future I'd look into getting a laptop with DX11 capable graphics. These are currently only available with ATi graphics chips (nvidia's gonna be 6 months late and have their DX 11 capable graphics out in march at the earliest and probably much later for the mobile versions). If you wanted to that however that would require you to get a different laptop. The nvidia chip only supports DX10 which came out with Vista and not DX11 which is the newest version that came out with Windows 7. So if you wanted to go that route look for a laptop with ATi Mobility Radeon 5650 graphics or better (the bigger the model number the better).
If budget is a concern for you I'd downgrade the Intel processor on the Sony you picked out to the Core i7 1.6GHz that's plenty powerful and then upgrade the graphics chip. When it comes to gaming the power of the graphics chip is more important than the power of the CPU. Plus you're only gonna get a 5 to 10% increase in performance between those two Core i7 chips however there's a big difference between the 310m and the 330m
If you want to out here's all the specs for the graphics chips I mentioned
Nvidia 330m
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...t_330m_us.html
nvidia 310m
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...e_310m_us.html
nvida 210m (almost identical to the one above)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product..._g210m_us.html
Ati Radeon 5650
http://www.amd.com/us/products/noteb...650-specs.aspx
Call Sony and see if you can modify your order before it's too late.

He can play games but is going to have to turn down the quality settings and in the future games won't even run well on it. I think her money is better spent on upgrading the graphics and screen for $150 instead of bumping up the CPU slightly for $250. The gigaflops on the 310m is 73 and the 330m is 182 gflops, that's a big performance improvement. The 310m is the lowest discrete graphics card Nvidia makes and if her man plays FPS games which I assume he does (why else would he want a gaming laptop) then she should get at least the 330m and better screen and save $100 in the process.

I wish I knew what games he plays/played, but I really don't know. In all honesty, he doesn't play much anymore on the computer and has an Xbox, although it's broken at the moment (maybe a birthday gift? lol). And with the new house, I don't think he will have much time for gaming anyway.
I'm kind of kicking myself for not upgrading the graphics card, though. I almost did, but changed my selection. Is this something that can be upgraded easily after purchase if he feels the need?

A hint for noobs--a lot of times the second digit in the model is more important than the first for graphics cards. The first number in general is the generation, which is usually more about directx support than performance. The second number is usually the indicator of the level of the processing. Usually. They can throw curveballs.

Oliver!!!
That may not seem too impressive by today's standards, but 2 years ago, it was quite the value. Much better bang for your buck than Mac.
