Sprint Users: Introducing the HTC Touch
http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/17/s...-4-for-249-99/

Is it safe yet to declare that carriers are looking at finger-friendly touchscreens as The Next Big Thing in wireless? Sprint today has officially announced its HTC Touch, a device codenamed "Vogue" that brings all of the original's unique personality to the world of CDMA (and, thankfully, EV-DO). Besides the touted support for 3G data, features include a 2 megapixel cam, microSD slot with support for up to 4GB of expansion, Windows Mobile 6 Professional with HTC's TouchFLO interface, and comprehensive support for Sprint's media features including Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store, all packed into a shell measuring 4 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and weighing in at 4 ounces (trust us, it looks and feels pretty flippin' small). Interested parties don't have terribly long to wait, either -- look for it to start showing up in retail channels November 4 for a penny under $250 on contract with rebates.

Ive used this phone on t-mobile (friends)... it basically sucks ass. the keyboard is what kills it for me, its just not as efficient as a physical keyboard like my palm treo has. I found it extremely hard to type on it.
More than half of what I do on my phone is typing and sending messages on AIM and texts, so the keyboard is a big deal for me... if they would have some sort of sliding out keyboard that would be sweet. Add to that the fact that I am biased against Windows, haha.
The Centro is where its at!

Here are pictures of the 2 keyboards that ship on the Touch. From the best of my understanding (and usage) the device will auto select between the 2 keyboards depending on what type of field you are in. If you are in a password and email field the device will default to the full QWERTY keyboard.
The 2nd keyboard is what you get when you are in the body of a message, Word doc, notes etc.. Anywhere that you are going to do the majority of your typing. It works surprisingly well and the predictive text is very accurate and gives you many options across the very top of the keyboard. At the bottom is a button to toggle between "abc", "XT9" and "SYM". Overall, after some getting used to, I am getting pretty good on this keyboard.
This week was a good test for my Touch. I was in customer meetings all day Mon, Tues and Wed (and showed it off to many people in my meetings), I worked primarily from my device including push email, phone calls, etc. I took the phone off of charge at 7:30am each morning and when I put it back on around midnight I was down to about 20%. Like most WM devices, with all day usage you are going to need to charge each night.
Today I hopped on a plane with a new toy
. A pair of Sony Erickson BT stereo headphones to play with and all I can say is wow they worked great. I took the phone off of charge today at 7:30, boarded the plane at noon, listened to music for 2 hours straight, when I landed I had 70% battery life left and currently I am down to 10%. So again all day + the use of BT Stereo. It good, not great but good enough for how I use the device.

So i ordered one of these today for $250...half the price of original after sweet-talkin customer service (as well as reworkin a better plan) - gonna see how i like it, seemed pretty good for what i need when i played with it at the Sprint store, so we'll see later this week!
Just received mine. It's one of the better WinMo phones avail. Sprint TV and my Slingplayer make this more than worth it for me, but the customizations, screen, touchflo, extra memory and 400mhz dual core processor setup pulled me in. Plus the screen and all the menus are setup to work without the need of a stylus. If this phone had a bigger screen and snazzy, easy to use, cool transitions interface like the iphone, i would say it was better than the iphone. Plus everything works similar to the iphone with the finger scrolling, the only thing is that it's not multi touch. It's an awesome phone and any sprint user should get one. Also Scnet review is so off as the GSM and CDMA versions are completely different.
Thanks for the info bigman...
I'll def be looking to throw some apps onto it once i get it - heard the Opera Mobile browser works faster than IE on that. Also, i saw this:

Some Touch users have said they've used it and worked well. Would def help out with the smaller keyboard thats on the screen.

I messed around w/ the GSM touch for a few hours (my friend and I switched phones at school) She complained about texting, so I tried to prove her wrong by trying to hold a conversation w/ her using her phone and I failed miserably. She got rid of it the next week and got a treo!

Pretty cool so far - figuring everything out.
Has anyone installed that Slide2Unlock app that does the iphone-esque slide feature? Anyone else using any cool apps?

Guys with the touch looking for a great iphone like keyboard that's free and customizable, download this:

Enjoy!

Enjoy!
So how does this compare with the iphone? Cant decide if I want to stay with sprint and get the touch or just switch over and get the iphone. What bothers me even more is that I heard iphone is coming out with 3g in about 6 months or something and I dont want to be stuck with either an old iphone or a 2 year contract with sprint again. I was thinking that if sprint could offer me free data and text for my family plan at the same price then I might just stay with sprint. Any other goodies to ask for? I also might consider adding one more phone line to the family share plan as a barganing tool (thinking about adding one for my cousin)
if you wanna add another line you can contact me, as i work for sprint. but as far as discounts go good luck. they have really put a hold on discounting phones. we can only discount $4 per phone. so if i take off $50 for a phone i have to then sell about 13 phones at regular price. i dont know how it is everywhere else but i know in the south region it is that way. the touch is a pretty nice phone. you definately will have to play with it and read on it. i had to adjust the sensitivity on it to make it work alittle smoother. i have an iphone and like it better
but the touch is a nice phone. i do like it because of the windows mobil 6 & the iphone has no kind of word document creator. there are good and bad things about both the touch and iphone

I have this phone...I love it in every way except one....everytime I use the phone feature when you hold it up to your face to use it, five million applications launch. I generally lock the phone when not it use, but have yet to figure out a way to keep this from happening. You can't turn off the touchflo without uninstalling the program. I love the ability to download third party apps and the sound is incomparable on it. Everyone at work wants one. I have downloaded all my medical and drug info for work on it. Please if you have any ideas about using the phone without launching every app I have????
