I went premium for $10/month. For as much driving as I do it's great. I use a radio transmitter on bottom of iPhone to play the music through my cars' stereo systems. Love the Spotify

Hey guys, I already have spotify for a couple of days already and I still don't understand what separates it from grooveshark or pandora. What makes spotify more special than what's already out there?

^^ You can pick any song on demand instantly....instead of waiting for it to come up and be played on your playlist/station/genre.

iPhone app for Spotify but it's missing some bands and the iPhone app so far is mediocre.

seems like its similar to grooveshark?

except apple yanked groovesharks app from the app store. so the only way to get it on your iOS device is to jailbreak it.

also both have to pay for mobile access....

I like Spotify's desktop software much more than grooveshark's but that's just personal preference.

So I'm late to the party, but does anyone get discounts for a year's subscription? This is more expensive than grooveshark, that's for sure :-(

I'm trying out the Premium. You get it free for a month. I wanted to stream music to my phone which the free beta doesn't allow nor can I install the program at work. So worth the $10. My only concern is getting hit on my "unlimited" ATT data plan.

Some songs are greyed out. At least they're not magically missing from albums. I can't hear Scenario nor its remix.

Is there any way to tell Spotify to give me the clean version of songs rather than the profanity laced versions?

Why you might like it more than Pandora? It's music on demand versus hoping you get the song.

I've noticed that for some albums they have clean versions but not all. I think it depends if the artist made that version first of all. I've seen that for some of the rap.

I hope they put in parental control on these things. It's not too cool when Enrigue Iglesias unexpectedly tells my 9 year old daughter that he's going to fuck her instead of love her.

Siri integration with Spotify. Pretty cool.

I switched to Mog this week to try it out. Forbes rated it higher because all the tracks are at 320kbps and they had some music that Spotify didn't like Dylan, Pink Floyd, and the 2112 20 minute epic by Rush. I'll try it out and see what's up.

Do you still need an invite to register with spotify? I see that you can register with your facebook info but I'd rather do it directly with spotify.

When I had to register to MOG, I registered through Facebook. I received an email from them so that I can register directly. Then I disconnected my FB so that I don't have to log in with it.

I paid for the premium version and I love it. I use it everywhere I go whether it be at home, in the car or at work.

Has anybody used Spotify in their car with an iPod adapter? I'm curious to see if it'll show you the artist and song title on the display with Spotify.

Took a while but I have the Family plan and apparently there's a 10,000 song cap for songs you save and playlists. That sucks because the deeper you get into it, the less likely you'd leave.

Spotify starts cracking down on friends who share family plans

Emails requesting GPS coordinates are being sent to some subscribers

Sep 28, 2018

Spotify is emailing some users on family plans asking for their GPS locations in order to confirm that they live in the same location, reports Spiegel Online and Quartz. Subscribers that don’t confirm their home address could lose access to their plan, according to the email. The move is an apparent attempt by Spotify to crack down on groups of friends who save money on individual subscriptions by sharing discounted plans intended for families.

The emails, which have been sent to a limited number of “Premium for Family” subscribers in at least the US and Germany, have been received with scorn by some who rightly point out that not all families live together. However, Spotify’s small print does say that the family plan is available for “you and up to five people who reside at your same address.”

The amount of people subscribed to family plans suggests not all of them abide by Spotify’s definition. Billboard reports that nearly half of global streaming subscribers (including Spotify’s competitors) make use of family plans, because they can reduce the cost of a Spotify subscription by as much as 75 percent with six people on one $14.99 Spotify family plan.

The practice appears to be having an impact on Spotify’s bottom line, with average revenue per user sliding by 12 percent in 2018’s second quarter. Previously the company has offered little to no means of verifying a user’s family status, making it easy to set up shared plans between friends living at entirely separate locations.

It’s unclear how aggressively Spotify plans to move forward with the confirmation process. When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for Spotify said, “Spotify is currently testing improvements to the user experience of Premium for Family with small user groups in select markets. We are always testing new products and experiences at Spotify, but have no further news to share regarding this particular feature test at this time.”

Gotta crackdown to pay those licensing fees. My fiancee lives in NY for work but her name is with mine on everything here so they can kiss my ass.
