Cool Sony Ericsson P1...

So, with all the mini-orgasming over the iPhone, anyone here (aside from me) hyped about the Sony Ericsson P1...?

<---- Ready to order one at launch.

^ Well, just the fact that the P1 has an external battery makes it WAYYYYY better than the iPhone IMO.

Well, I wouldn't hafta pay an import tax for starters...

And sometimes, Tiger Direct has pretty good prices compared to other places...

You should shop around more. TD may have competitive PC/Monitor pricing but thats it. PC parts and everything else in the store isn't really competitively priced.

Oh...good to know. I don't tend to buy cellphones online.

Got some sites you'd recommend then...?

Not too sure on cellphones since I always get mine direct from Rogers via upgrade or whatever. But ebay would be the first place I check.

What provider are you with?

Yup. Why not inquire about an upgrade if you're eligible? They usually shave off some $$ depending on your plan.

I love my SE W600i but its getting long in the tooth. I should look into this too. Any chance of using it as a GPS?

I'll ask.

But, considering that I have yet to see the P990 even offered, I'm kinda wondering when and if the P1 will even land up here.

Good find. I just retired my P990i for the Crackberry Curve simply because of size. I have stood by SE phones for a while but I could not deal with the bulkiness of the P990i. It looks like I will be getting a new toy once this badboy comes out.

Just curious, why is that so significant? Never really understood why people make a big deal out of it (or rather, the lack of it on iPhone).

Well, if I'm paying this much for a device, I would think that swapping out a SIMPLE battery is not a process that involves me spending MORE $$$ and having significant downtime.

My analogy to this is a printer. If toner runs out, I need to send the printer away to get the cartridge replaced...? C'mon! Sorry, as neat and cool-looking the iPhone is, the internal battery thing is a huge deal-breaker for me.

I guess... but in ten years of owning a cell phone I have never had any reason to replace a battery.

Well, IMO...I think that'll change for you, dude.

Here's why:
You no longer have a mere cellphone. Don't forget why you spent the $$$ on the iPhone in the first place--for all of that extra funky functionality. You'll be playing with it more; listening to music, playing with the games, picture/image features, and so on. By doing all of that--drain on battery quicker which equates to more recharges.

Good point. However... I put my iPhone to a good amount of use (video, music, email, web, phone, text) and it needs a full recharge about once every three days. At this rate thats a battery replacement once every 3 1/2 years or so.

Even if it had to be done every year, it would still be a worthy sacrifice (for me) due to the awesomeness of the rest of the phone. I'm not going to pass up on what I see as the best device available just because I might have to mail it out for 3 days a few years down the road. Plus the form factor of the thing without a battery door is slick.

For the record, I know I probably sound like I've been brainwashed by Apple with my recent iPhone posts. I rarely 'gush' about anything, and I probably have more posts on AZ bitching about gadgets I dislike than anyone else. I've put the iPhone through its paces though, and I really think it is that good.

Well, I don't think you need to make any further justications about the iPhone.
Hands down, I think it is the neatest PDAphone device out there right now. From what I've read and seen of it's functions, there is nothing that can beat it. And honestly, if the battery thing is not an issue, then more power to you.

For me however, I give that issue more weight. And although the interface is likely not as earth-shattering, I think the P1 will probably give me the same type of overall functionality.

And as a slight added bonus, I know that not as many people will be carrying the P1...and so, there's the exclusivity of it as well.

that's cool you got an iphone man but not EVERYONE wants or needs to get one. yumchah wants a p1 that's his choice for whatever conclusion he came up with. whether he wants to replace his battery on his own or he wants to send mms. no need to be an iphone pusher

Naw, dude... is not pushing the iPhone here. He asked a good question...

And frankly, who knows, I may just change my mind when I actually handle the Apple device since I'm so easily impressed with pretty pictures and features.

I think I'd rather have a HTC over this.

2 co-workers have it (Rogers Tytn, similar to the 3300) and love it.

BTW Yummy check out the Private Sales section at www.redflagdeals.com/forums (Canada Only) for deals, new or used on phones.

the N95 does not have a stylus, but IMO, touch screen is not necessary. It does however work with my Microsoft Bluetooth Elite Keyboard for easy peasy emailing etc. the built in wireless b & g is a godsend for saving money in Canada on data charges.

The PDA aspect of this phone is amazing, i can open and edit MS Office docs, i can open PDFs, flash files etc, it's all possible. I can email with attachments, log into google calendar, use the gmail mobile app right on the phone too. There's pretty much nothing it can't do. And the sheer number of programs available for S60 makes it a no brainer IMO.

the 5mp camera is actually A LOT better than i thought it would be, some of the pics i've taken have blown me away.
