Software for a website
First off...Merry Christmas to all.
Second...I need to get some software to help develop a personal website for my wife, newborn, and myself. I'm not a real computer guy so something that is simple to use is a must! All I want to be able to do is to share baby pic's, new house pics and of course TSX pics with friends and family from afar.
TIA
I'll be running it on Windows 98 at first (although we'll likely be upgrading the home computer sometime in 2005)

If you have ms office, you might already have frontpage installed. That should get you going. Do you have a web host set up yet?
If you're just looking to have an online photo gallery you might want to check out http://www.pbase.com/.

What I do is use a software program called Picasa (I actually think it's free now). It manages pictures and you can export it to a web page.

Thanks for the input!
If I wanted to do more than just host pictures...would I need a program like Front Page? I'm not planning anything crazy but our high speed net provider does allot us a webpage. I've kinda planned to put on things other than just pictures.
Thanks for the help!
PS- No Microsoft Office on the computer

Dont bother trying to design a website if all you want to do is host pictures.

Most ISPs now have some sort of online tool to help you develop a website. Won't help you do anything complex, but might be plenty to start with.
I personally don't like Frontpage. Most ISPs don't have the extensions necessary to handle some of its unique features, and certainly you won't have them with a "free" web space. It works fine in any environment so long as you limit yourself to features supported by "normal" HTML, but unless you are familiar in the first place, you won't know what those features are to begin with. It is also fairly expensive if you buy it on its own, and I have noticed that Microsoft doesn't seem to be packaging it with the latest versions of Office, you need to buy it seperately.
I use a program called Adobe GoLive, but it's probably overkill for you as well. More "generic" than the Microsoft product, but still probably too full-featured and too expensive for a family website.
Shopping at Staples the other day, I saw a bunch of what appeared to be simple programs with names like "My Website Editor" and such, that might be right up your alley. Much cheaper than Frontpage, GoLive or any of the "heavier duty" website editing and creating tools. Can't recommend any of them, but I suspect that for your needs you won't have too much of a problem with anything that's inexpensive and decent.
Your biggest problem might be Win98 compatibility. Less and less software really works well on that OS.
Amazon has a section for website editor software. You might take a look and perhaps find one that's inexpensive with generally good user reviews.
