....so I got my 1st cell phone yesterday.....
......and I'm almost 39
I've been fighting it for almost 10 years...and I finally caved after going to my 20 year class reunion and everyone asking for my cell number.
I went with just a 1 year contract with Verizon and got a Motorola V265 camera phone to get me started.
I'm usually fairly current when it comes to technology and electronic gadgets....but for some reason talking on the phone hasn't been a big priority in my life.
So any helpful hints for a cell phone virgin are much appreciated

everyone always knew when I worked....so they knew they could always catch me there
I think if I traveled more I probably would have gotten it sooner
I don't think I could name one family member or close friend that doesn't have a cell phone....so I guess it was just a matter of time before I got one
today I've already cancelled my long distance & Caller ID on my home phone.......I'm kind of scared

2. Carry all the numbers you ever use on the phone.
3. Don't lose it
4. Carry it with you everywhere
5. Turn the damn thing off in meetings and movie theaters
6. Use it to call ahead and let people know you will be late
7. Give it out to people and then don't answer it when they call
8. Call them back 5 days later and say you just got their message or was out of town
9. Don't use it at counters and at the bar, they hate you, I hate you, we all hate peole who do that
10. Buy the new and latest phone every year so you can look cool
Welcome to modern life.
^^^ thank you
*BONUS*
they forgot to give me my $50 rebate for my phone, so I went back to the Verizon store to pick it up
I happened to be wearing a logo shirt from my employer....turns out we get a 25% discount on all plans and accessories
might be time to double my minutes now

11. Talk at a normal speaking voice when you use it. Its not a tin can on a string, you don't need to yell.
(so many people don't seem to be able to grasp this)

If you're in a restaurant and get a call:
Either:
1. Answer it
2. Tell whoever is calling to "hold on a second"
3. Excuse yourself from your table
4. Go to lobby/bathroom/outside
5. Continue your conversation.
Or:
1. Turn off your phone

i developed strong text messaging skills in high school.. really good way to pass time.. also you can send them when your not supposed to be using a phone ie work, quiet place..
link some buddies together with the same service and send picture messages to eachother.. thats cool too

Oh how true that is...
I remember when I got my first phone. I was a freshman in college in 1993. My parents thought I should have one in case I had an emergency while driving to/from school. I got a Motorola StarTAC flip phone. It was a brick, had a one line display, and I think I paid $20/mo for 30 minutes of talk time. Needless to say I really never used it.
AMIC,
