Should I wait to buy a laptop

Should I wait to buy a laptop
So if you saw in my other thread my laptop got stolen.
I have other means to a computer for now, so i'm contemplating. Should I wait a few months for a new laptop, I havent really been following computers recently. So I dont know if Intel is due to release and updated chip or anything.
And if I were to get it soon, you think its worth the premium (assuming there is one) for ultrabooks??

Ramblings is open to the public now isnt it?? If it is, I dont like that new set up...
anyway my first step is deciding between an ultrabook or laptop.
I dunno if i really need a cd drive.

Yeah, new Ivy Bridge chip due out by end of month. If you don't care about new chip, you should be able to pick up a good deal on the clearance Sandy Bridge based laptops I'm thinking.
Ultrabooks are cool, but if you're not going to be traveling with it... that premium is a bit hard to justify.

My rule of thumb when buying tech is if you really need it, then buy it. Don't wait as there's no point in waiting. If you don't need it right away then just wait it out. Ivy Bridge is around the corner but you have to consider problems that may arise in the first batch if any do arise. This happens quite often like in the first batch of Sandy Bridge processors being recalled, Nvidia mobile GPUs overheating, etc. The plus side of waiting is that the Sandy Bridge laptops should drop even more in price and the average user won't really notice the difference between the two different techs. Also, if you wait out for Ivy Bridge, expect the price gouging to go into effect early on as they try to stabilize production barring any issues that may delay that from happening. My

The new chips are suppose to give a nice speed improvement too, especially in the graphics dept. The Intel HD graphics 4000 chip is suppose to give a 32% to 108% improvement over the 3000 chip that's used in the Air.

But since you're interested in the MB Air, a new model probably won't be out until June(?). This is because the MB Air uses a dual core chip and Intel won't be releasing dual core Ivy Bridge chips until June.... unless Apple surprises us and finds a way to stick a quad core chip in it which are out by the end of this month.

I agree on MB air, but I'd wait if you can, new ones are due out soon. That being said mine is the 1.7ghz sandy bridge and it's lightning fast. I'm getting close to a full year of ownership and the battery still last 7-8 hours on a charge.
