Screwed by Verizon
Screwed by Verizon
I just have experienced something ridiculous. I currently have a motorola razr for Verizon and for some apparent reason I am being charged $800 in data usage. I have no clue where this came from! The charges/usage came on 6/13 through 7/20 until my father finally terminated the line. There were downloads of videos, ringtones, games, which I KNOW I didnt download them. Quality on razr for videos and games cant be that great. My dad and I just got off the phone with verizon and they ALL kept saying they are valid charges. Saying that only the phone(the razr I used) can make those charges. Any help on fighting this or anything I can do would be helpful, thanks im so pissed
I believe it is possible to spoof a number, although I dont know the technical specifics on any of this, I have heard of fake chips that just pull a random number out of a hat and the charges go to that number.

Damn that is crazy, don't give up, you may have to call several times to find the right person who can actually do something.
Check out www.howardforums.com, they may be able to direct you on how to fix this problem.

Don't mean to bump an older thread but...
How did you make out? Are you still fighting it?
If so I would contact Customer care, ask to speak to a supervisor and explain your issue, if they can't help you, ask to speak to their supervisor, and see if they can help you. If not just keeping moving up the chain of command until someone helps you. Always write down everyones name you speak to and all valuable info it may come in handy down the road.

I am still fighting it.. these charges just doesn't seem logic. $800 for something that I and my family didn't do is not right.. Hopefully something good comes out of this, Ill post something once this issue is solved somehow..
naw.. thing is that if i used this as evidence, they're just going to say i deleted them.. so iono what to do as of now.. right now im trying to find calls made and received while data is being used and charged on my bills...
i heard that you can be online if your making a call or receiving them, is this true?

Give these guys a call and let them know what happened. See if they can help, and how much it will cost.

They are for real and know their shit.
Also, does the borswer in your lhone maintain a history of browsing? If so, does it contain entries from PRIOR to the suspicious activity, but NOT the actual suspicious activity? Most users don't have the ability to selectively delete history entries, just an "all or nothing" clear of the history. If you have browsing history from before the suspicious acitvity, and the suspicious stuff is not there, you got a good argument to make to Verizon.
EDIT: smartphones like the BB or the Treos have the ability to remove single history entries...

With esn numbers being used to open internet access, its very hard for someone to spoof your phone unless they had direct access to your phone and got you ssid and esn numbers.

that is true for pretty much anything these days.
... about 4 months ago some one was charging games and other stuff to my sprint account... sprint deleted the charges and were going to block all my phones from 3rd party downloads... it was around $90 dollars worth on two of our phones...
...also... as far as I know, phones will not allow an online data stream (web browsing)while talking on the phone... I want a phone like that, but havent found one...

First use regular customer service. Document everything you did.
Then if they are unable to help, go to consumerist.com and read about EECB's. They are basically emails to the CEO/high up people in the company (in this case Verizon). Most people get positive results since the executive customer service people will call them back and get everything sorted out rather quickly. Just make sure you don't skip over regular customer service first, and make sure your email is cordial. If you are rude/mean, even though they are wrong, they won't help you.
Edited for Spelling and more details.
