Question Re: Mp3 burning...

My new car comes with Mp3 compatibility, which is great. It pretty much eliminated my need for getting satellite radio, I can have lots of songs on a cd without all the space. So I took like 25 cd's, picked and chose my songs and burned it in Mp3 form to make 1 cd. AWESOME! I have everything saved in separate folders in the CD, so it's easy to find the songs I'm looking for. Now here's the confusing part. I'm using Roxio to burn the CD. When I drag the folders from the upper part of the roxio to the lower part where the new cd info is, it alphabetizes the folders, which is fine. I have certain songs in the folders that are off of live music cd's, so it's necessary that each song be in the right order, otherwise it sounds stupid. To be safe, I edited each track name and numbered each track as 01-02-03-04 etc...just in case it alphabetizes it, the numbers would come first and it would be in the right order. When I dragged the folders down, opened up the folders, the songs appear to be in the order that I left them, but when I burn the cd, the tracks are all scrambled in the folder. When I go back and open the folder after burning the cd, the songs are still in the same order I left them, but different than the way it recorded. There is a setting in there that I could move the songs around in the order that I want, and even with doing that, the cd still records in it's own order. It's driving me nuts..Lastly, each song is titled, the computer picked it up when I first put the original cd's that I was burning into the computer. My car shows the name of the folder (the artist), but to see the song name, it says "Untitiled"..can anyone help me?

A couple of thoughts, it maybe be organizing them based on their MP3 tags (song name, artist, etc). Also, can you use playlists? This would be the easiest and most flexible way to solve your problem.

It is organizing them based on the MP3 tag. That's why I edited the names to ensure that the order would be numberical/alphabetical.

Use a playlist off of which program? How would it differ?

You have your mp3 player play a playlist, so it will always play things in the exact order you want. Isnt that what you want?

I figured out why the radio wasn't picking up the track names. The default settings in the burner software was set to close the cd, but not finalize it. That explains why I wasn't able to see what's on the CD on my computer. I was only able to read the CD thru an Mp3 player. I made another CD and finalized it, the radio now picks up the names, so one problem is solved.
I took out the track numbers I put into the title of those live music tracks, and edited the playlist to make sure that everything if in the order I want it to be. Sure enough, it STILL alphabetized all of the tracks and scrambled the track numbers around. :wtf: The playlist shows the exact arrangement I put the tracks, but the lower part of Roxio, the box that shows what songs I'm putting into the new CD are showing me the arrangement that roxio put it, in alphabetical order. I go into the playlist once again to check, and the playlist is arranged differently. This is really aggravating, man! HELLLLLP

Are you burning a "Data CD" or an "MP3 CD" in the software? If you're telling Roxio to make a data CD, it shouldn't mess with your file names or anything else at all.

I burned it both ways and it worked fine, showing the tags and everything, but I still can't re-arrange the order where it would actually change..

I'll Try that link you sent me tonight when I'm home, Thanks CL-driver! I guess I have to pay for it?

You don't have to pay, there is a shareware version under downloads on the left hand part of the webpage. I personally haven't used it yet, but their description of the program seems that it would solve your problem. Good luck!
