PS2 Modem adapter and Hard drive connector??

OK for those who have the PS2 Modem, there is a harddrive connection on the back of the module, and as far as I can tell you should be able to plug a IDE hard drive onto it (appears to be 40 pin, but no key but then again how the hell would you reverse the hard drive considering that the power adpater is built onto the adapter as well).

Now the question is has anyone actually done this yet?? I've got like a 4 gig HD just sitting in front of me, but don't want to be the guinea pig

You can't install any drive because the FIRMWARE on the HDD must be programmed to Sony's HDD spec or else it won't work. They will release a drive later on so that you can turn your PS2 into a ful fledge computer...

You can stick your drive in the bay but it won't do anything without the proper drivers and firmware. So save yourself the trouble.

My guess is its for the Linux Kit Sony Offers. The kit comes with a a HDD, LINUX, network adapter etc. Check it out out. You can have LInux running right from your PS2
