Printer
Ok I need a new printer - Any suggestions????
Basically I will mostly use it for school stuff like printing papers but I also want one that can print photos from my digital camera.
Consumer Reports said this on was good and I found it online for like $60.
Canon Color Bubble Jet S520
Anyone have a good printer that didn't cost too much (less than $200)?
Thanks
Melanie

I would stay away from Canon and Lexmark-
the cartridges will kill you in op costs.
HP's are pretty good. I have an older photosmart 1115 series with the flash card port. It uses the 51645A blk cartridge which are pretty common and cheap. Still have to get the Tri-color one though for color printing.
Are you running it on a network?

if you can find it, get the hp 990cse or 990cse (ones the canadian and ones the amereican model, same everything). they were hp's last model of printer, top of the line under a year ago. i saw them refurbished for 150$cdn, and brandnew for 200$cdn, so thats well under 200$us. the best printer you can buy for the money, dont bother going for canon or epson and dont think about lezmark. if you want to know why, ask and ill do my rant. (i used to sell printers at staples so i know what i am talking about)

unless you want real photo quality pics by spending some money and going dedicated 6 color printer, doesn't matter much which way you go.
For school, I would go with one of the HP printers with the built in scanner and copier feature. They will print decent photos, good speed for bw report printing, and you will be using the scanner and copier at school (will save time running to the library), or scanning other papers and OCR'ing into Word or making PDF files.

when we bought our Sony Vaio desktop.... we upgraded to the S520 color printer. thus far, we've had no problems. the output is not too shabby.
although i'm used to color laser printers at work.... the S520 is fine for home use.

Melanie:
I got the HP Deskjet 5550 about 1 month ago, and am so far very satisfied with its results. I print mostly papers for school and text - not many photos or graphics, but it's nice to have in case I need to. It seems like a similar situation you're in.
Anyway, it got decent user ratings on CNET, and there are deals for it sporadically. Like it says on CNET, it'll appeal to students and families. Well anyway, good luck!

I have an HP PSC 750 Printer-Scanner-Copier. It works really well (so far...3 months), but it's not small. It occupies about 15" D x about 18" W. It fits perfectly on my lateral file, but if you don't have much space, it may not be the best thing for you. I paid $150 at Staples, and I'm supposed to be getting a $40 Staples gift card, but it hasn't arrived yet. Time to call and bitch, I guess.
