Partition distribution among equally sized disks?
Partition distribution among equally sized disks?
I'm prepping to install Lubuntu on an old P4 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM system (Dell Dimension 4400 inherited from my mom). It has two 40GB HDDs. I'm trying to figure out the "optimal" partition distribution to best utilize the two drives. I'm trying to balance read/write load as well as utilize the storage space of both drives.
I think the most common setup is to have /home on one drive and everything else on another. Or, should I venture into doing a software striped mirror to utilize the space better?
This is just something I'm tinkering with. Are there any *NIX geeks who have input?

nevermind. This computer has been sitting in the closet for a while and I totally forgot I swapped one of the 40GB drives out for an 80GB drive.Soo, I'm going to do /home on the 80GB and use the 40GB for everything else.
Unless somebody has a recommendation/suggestion. I'm open to ideas.
