New Sony Ericsson phones

Two specific models I've been looking at are the W960 and the K850. I currently have a W810i (my first ever SE phone) and I'm VERY happy with it but I get bored of stuff quickly. Had it for a year now, and its time to upgrade. Anyone have more specifics about these two, notable details, i.e. price and functionality compared to the W810i?

I've researched some and found out that the W960 has 8GB internal memory, and HSDPA. What does HSDPA mean for me as a functionality?

My K800 died on me just a few weeks back, so I've been waiting for the K850 to come out. It is supposed to be out in the next month or so, from what I've been hearing. Not a fan of the W series since I'm not looking for a walkman phone.

Where can I get those phones? I don't see them carried by any phone company here.

No one seems to carry any SE phones nowaday.

I usually end up getting my phones from the middle east because I dislike the idea of being stuck with a locked phone. There are a bunch of websites where you can get unlocked phones that aren't available through any of the north american service providers.

These days I'm back to using my old T630 because the K800 died on me. I'm waiting for the K850 to come out so I can get that phone. The K800 was a pretty good phone until I got hit with the white screen of death issue that was a fairly common problem with the model.

Anyone have examples of photos on their K800 or K-series SE phone? I've heard praise about the photo quality on their phones but I haven't really seen any examples before. Not that I don't believe it, I just never really looked into it and never saw any examples.

I have some doubts that a phone which has to pack so much functionality and hardware into a small package would have image quality as close to/better than an ordinary point-and-shoot. I haven't seen the size of the image sensor in cell phones but I don't think it would be as big or superior as a P&S camera's sensor. And I'm not too fond of looking at pictures on tiny screens, though I did notice that the SE phones that boast superior picture quality vs. other picture phones have much wider screens and are meant to be held like a regular camera.

Why I loved my W810 was because its sound quality, compared to my iPod, was a lot better, especially on Mega Bass. I wish it had more options for EQ settings though. Of course I compared the two with the same exact songs and same exact earbuds/earphones. 3 different earbuds and several different songs, and my W810 convinced me that I wouldn't need another DAP as long as I had it. My iPod soon turned to alarm clock/paperweight duty. Heavier, bigger, and 100x more prone to scratches, and the battery life is now abysmal.... so why bother?

I thought that the K-series SE phones have the Walkman music player also? Or are they not as good in terms of sound quality or what? What's the difference music-wise between the K-series and W-series? I do know that the W-series usually comes with a better set of earbuds in the package, but if you upgraded, wouldn't it not even make a difference? And, whats the difference in image quality compared to the W-series? I imagine its better, but I could hardly justify getting a different phone just for the 1.2 megapixel difference at the time, e.g. the K800 vs. the W810.

I like the W960 vs. the K850 though because the W960 has 8GB of internal flash memory and I don't really mind the nicer pictures, cause I have an actual point-and-shoot and I don't take many pictures on my cell phone, mostly spur of the moment type of pictures. Another thing that bothers me about the K850 is the green luminescent ring on the keypad and the tiny buttons. I do however like the fact that it has a camera shutter/cover, or at least the other K-series do.

Mental note.... I should go on howardforums more often....

That link has some pics I took with my K800i in San Francisco back in May. I'm hardly the world's best photographer, so be warned. It also managed to stay foggy and overcast throughout the weekend I was there. However, I think the pictures manage to show the K800i's capabilities adequately. There were a lot of features I never used when it came to taking pictures.

The music player was decent, but I didn't use it that much. I have all my mp3s on an mp3 player so didn't want to use the K800 for that purpose.

Howardforums is definitely a good resource for info on cells, as is gsmarena I believe.

From what I've read about the K850, it is going to be offered with either that luminescent green ring around the joystick area and trim along the sides, or in an electric blue kind of color. The keys will take some getting used to, definitely. I played around with the K810 and it has small keys as well, only they're round instead of the squares on the K850. I think it's simply a matter of getting used to the keys being spaced apart rather than being right next to each other.

I have a k550 (2mp camera) I got from ViperrepiV when he got his iPhone. This is the best phone I have owned, and sure as hell the first with a useful camera. My average picture looks like ^^^^ that one right there with the k800.

haha, thats the straw

check out eseth.net for a bunch of themes. depending on how much storage you want you may want to buy a bigger M2 chip. I am considering buying a 2 gig one, mainly for music.

have you decided what color your getting? I have noble blue but the gold looks pretty nice too.

Omg, so all this talk about new phones is making me go crazy. Fiance and I recently purchased new matching phones. The SE m600 in white; no camera but great email capabilities. He carries his Nikon D80 and I usually have my point + shoot with me, so no need for a camera phone. However, I'm a true samsung fan at heart. Unfortunately, I had to sell my D900 for the M600. I love both phones though and I sometimes miss my D900.

The fiance and I use x1387 (user name) on ebay. He's the shit when it comes to phones. We've ordered from him numerous times now and his service is great and the shipping is insanely fast. A lot of import buyers know him b/c most of the time he's got the best deal and you cannot beat the shipping time.

I heard the W960 is coming out within a few months (there's some speculation it being as soon as october)? A friend of mine is waiting for that and I think he also mentioned that it'll be available on T-Mobile. The w960 is pretty much a direct competitor to the iPhone with the touch screen and MP3 capabilities. Gotta see how that price tag is though.....
