Exclamation Microsoft Word HELP?!?

I'm trying to type up a lab report and been having a weird problem with word.

When I highlight something and try to replace it with something else, it doesn't replace anything; it just adds what I begin to type but doesn't delete the stuff that I highlighted.

Please HELP!

What version of Word are you using?

Try this:
Go to "Tools" --> "Options" --> click the "Edit" tab --> make sure the "Typing replaces selection" box is ticked.

If none of that worked maybe you hit the insert key on your keyboard? Try hitting it again and should go back to normal that is if it was what caused your problem otherwise hit it once more.
