HP is having a trade up deal right now. Depending on what kinda specs are on your computer you can get market value for your laptop, plus up to a $500 rebate off a new hp or compaq laptop. Just FYI.

I recently bought an HP dv4170us from compUSA. So far its been great, and it was on sale for about 1200 bucks.

dv4170us info

If you are looking for a "ultra portable" computer then this isint the one for you, but its not too big either.

Best Buy and CompUSA were both having sales on this computer about a month ago, so im not sure if its still going on.

As far as how reliable it is, I wouldent know seeing how ive only had it for a month. I can say that the other hp computers that I have used have held up well.

Shit, Jatt, I think we have the same laptop (and the same problem). I ended up taking mine completely apart and re-soldering the connector onto the ciruit board, but now it's starting to get loose again. Good thing I temp-glued a "repair" panel back on.

I did the same thing - wrapped the cord one way, then the other, then no way worked. Taking it apart is a pretty big pain in the ass.

the opposite, they called to confirm my shipping address and said my chin spoiler should be aboard the UPS truck today or tomorrow at the latest. they will call back with tracking info.

you may want to give them a ring.

If you're at the point where you're ready to trash the laptop you should get your hands on a dremel tool and notch out a square on the bottom, under the plug. The plastic is pretty think (one of the rubber pads goes there), and you'll have to trim back a piece of metal shielding, but the solder/contact points for the female end of the plug are right there.

Got my S150 a year ago for $2100 including a 3 yr warranty form best buy. Realiable and easy to transport at 4.1 lbs. Depending on the state you live in you maybe able to purchase a laptop without paying tax too. I got mine near the start of school time, and in NC there is a no tax weekend on school items such as computers, clothes, and supplies.

You may also want to look at the Vaio FS Series laptop. It's slightly larger and there's a version that is 1500 i believe that's being sold in stores.

If you want the most durable laptops, go for the Thinkpads, but if you want something at a good price with good support Dells are the way to go

I wouldn't want a laptop made and owned by a Chinese Communist Government.

Why not? Think about haow many items you buy that are made in China.

Thinkpads can take a beating and the X31 is only a little over 3lbs. Just need to keep in mind that you'll need an external DVD drive for it. Not much of a problem when you can buy the Sony DRX-800U external dual layer DVD burner for around $210 and it connects via Firewire or USB.

IBM did nothing but sell their brandname ("ThinkPad"). The same manufacturer is building the laptops, just under a different name.

I bet some of the parts of the computer you used to make that post are from China
