My laptop mouse goes all screwy...

Ive got a IBM Thinkpad 600E...The "Trackpoint" mouse doesnt work...The pointer is on the screen and it reponds to my touch, but responds in a weird way, say the pointer is in the middle of the screen and I just barely touch the trackpoint, it will fly up to the top of the screen and become uncontrollable for about 20-30 seconds, then when it responds, it will fly all over the screen without me even touching the mouse...Also, If I leave the mouse centred in the middle of the screen, after a little while it will slooooowly start to move in any direction...very slowly...I did a google search for "erratic mouse" and got a bunch of topics about Linux...not any on Windows XP...

For the time being I plugged in my USB mouse and it works fine...

Does anybody have any ideas?

Control Panel > Mouse then click Pointer Options tab and adjust the motion speed.

Exact same problem here !! I have a Toshiba Tecra, and im used to using the accupoint more than the touchpad. Sometimes it just starts to go up, and i have to push the accupoint down harder to bring the pointer down, at that point, the touchpad is non-responsive. But here is what brings the pointer back to its senses, for me atleast, when this happenes, i start using the touchpad (just moving my finger on it in random motion ) and in about 5 to 10 seconds, the pointer starts responding to it, then i go back to the accupoint.

Edit: And yea the USB mouse fixes everything.

Make sure the eraser head is properly mounted right and centered. Sometimes it gets stuck for me when I push into the direction I want to go.
