Microsoft: XP Service Pack 3 today. Well, on second thought…

They never cease to amaze me. :shakehead

In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web.

To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web.

Yeah, on paper this one doesn't seem like it should cause too many headaches. Thing is, I have final exams starting here at the Law School next week and I need to beat and bang our exam application against SP3 as soon as I possibly can.

SP3 isn't anything new at least for consumers. It's a rollup of hotfixes and security updates and adds support for NAP (Network Access Protection) a new feature of Server 2008. I've been running Sp3 for about a week now. If you need it here's a link to download the RTM updater package. It's about 300mb.
