Machine-gun toting sentry robot by Samsung...

Whoa.
Samsung has partnered with Korea University to develop a machine-gun equipped sentry robot, which consists of “two cameras: one for day-time and one for infrared night vision, zooming capabilities, a speaker for notifying the intruder, sophisticated pattern recognition to detect the difference between humans/trees, and a 5.5mm machine-gun.”
They are expected to sell for $200,00 USD and will be available late in 2007. The South Korean government plans to deploy these friendly reminders on the border between South and North Korea, to further ease relations between the countries.

LOL, how does that ease relations? That thing is going to shoot anything that comes by the border no questions asked. That's bound to cause some tension.

sorry for the long post...
all up and down the "freedom highway" there are these outposts with south korean guards in them. they have to watch the river that flows out of north korea all the way down into Seoul since spys will jump into the river and sneak down into the city.
i kid you not, a lot of these outposts have fake cardboard "guards" in them, i saw them with my own eyes. some of them were empty. but all lot of them had a soldier or two in them. i can't imagine staying vigil out there year round...they need those robots.
here you see the barbwire so anything that comes out of the river can't come up on the highway

then it seems like there's a guard shack every mile

this is a close up with two "armed" guards

those mountains are in north korea. that is the closest i could take pictures of north korea from, if you went past this line (up to the wall) no personal cameras allowed, only look thru the public telescope.

I'd rather be hit by 7.62mm than 5.56mm.

Cheaper than a fence, and much more badass.
