Unhappy MacBook Pro Issue: No DVI Output

All I can say is and and

Two nights ago the DVI port on MBP acted funny when I had it hooked up to a 20" Dell LCD. It randomly stopped sending a signal to the external LCD so I changed the settings in the Control Panel and it worked. Oh and this was while logged into XP using Boot Camp.

Earlier tonight during class, I had my MBP hooked up to a projector displaying PowerPoint slides for our class and when I connected the DVI cable the picture on the projector was fuzzy and discolored. I thought it was an issue with the projector because my MBP behaved just fine last night when I was working on it. Later in the evening the image on the projector began to flicker, kinda like how a scrambled channel on TV looks and then it just gave out completely. Again, I didn't think it was my MBP, I guess I was being too optimistic.

I get home and hook up it up to my 20" at home, and sure enough, it didn't work. I also tried getting it to work in OS X and nothing at all. The strange thing is that when the cable is disconnected from the notebook, the monitor enters into the screen that informs you that no DVI cable is connected and when I connect the cable it goes into power save mode. So it's detecting something there. The monitor behaves the same in XP.

I've read up on the Apple boards that quite a few other people are having the same problems and so far I've only found one person that resolved the issue but the only way they did was by taking it in for repair and having the motherboard replaced!

Anyone heard or experienced this problem? I'm so buried in stuff for work, school and teaching I can't afford to not have my laptop but if I can't use my external screen it's going to be harder at times. I dunno what to do!!!

FYI, I do have the warranty plan on the notebook, have approx 2 years left on the warranty plan.

I'm gonna say take it to the genius bar, get them to try another adapter, and if that doesn't work, she probably needs some service.

Yea, the way this thing is behaving I don't think I'm going to have any other choice.

I'm hoping it was just a bad contact or some dust in the port, but it doesn't explain what happened at school. I'll just keep an eye on it for the next few days and see if it still behaves abnormally.

Thanks for the help dude!
