LCD Monitors
Has anyone heard of Proview Technology Inc? I co-worker of mine will sell me her 15" LCD Monitor for $150 and was wondering if it was a good deal. The tag on the back says in was made in May of 1999, the model # is PT-500

I don't know if I've ever used one of their LCDs, but they're a low end CRT maker. The kind of monitor you get when Fry's or Circuit City gives you a "free" monitor with the purchase of a computer. I wouldn't get an LCD from 5/99. That's almost 3 years old. Its out of warranty and if the backlight goes, its dead and probably not worth fixing. The backlight is often the 1st component to go on an LCD. Also, its probably an analog model meaning it connects to a standard VGA card. Analog has some inherent problems and the circuitry that deals with those problems has come a long way in 3 years. Newer displays tend to have sharper images with less noise and pixel jitter than older ones.
