Laptop Ethernet Card Question

Im getting this for my friend, basically his ethernet port in his laptop broke, and he has no warranty, so I want to verify with this card I can plug the normal lan cable into this and it will work just like a normal ethernet port thats integrated into the laptops

You might wanna consider also going completely wireless using 802.11g.
