thats pretty loaded, so you have about 500 (after rebate) more to play with if you want to upgrade some of that stuff...i would get memory from crucial and save a few bucks there...

Nice choice. I have an Inspiron 8100 decked out to the gills - not one problem with the hardware. XP is another thing.

I too have an Inspiron 8000 PIII 850 w/512MB RAM. I've had the HD replaced under warranty. We use all Dells at my work and I can tell you there have been MANY HD crashes, the only other problem I see with the Inspiron 8000 series is LCD panels shitting the bed. But Dell's warranty rocks, so congrats man.

thats my exact specs... i have a 32gb drive and havent had any problems yet, but i have had my screen and keyboard replaced already, but since it was under warranty, i didnt care. the only thing that worries my is my HD makes a clicking sound once in a while, and i dont think that is normal for a laptop drive. also my mouse shoots off the the top right or bottom left if i put pressure on the wrist pad parts, kinda weird, gotta have them look at it. other than that, no probs so far... you ever seen these problems before in the inspirons???

Hard Drive clicking-yes, I've seen it, don't worry.

Mouse shooting off the screen?--Yes, the touchpad is too sensitive...every Latitude/Insprion I've ever worked on does it.

Your keyboard and LCD Panel problems don't surprise me, I get at least one laptop in every month with one of those two problems.
