I've got 2 (two) Inspiron 600m's in the house. I bought one over a year ago; I bought my mom one a few months after I did. I reformatted mine and installed XP Pro -- works like a charm. My GF uses my laptop to do her schoolwork (Office2003, 'net surfing, etc). I putz around with my mom's to burn DVD/CD's, some video editting (vacations) and moderating the A-Z board (LOL). One thing about the 600m -- it's assembled in Malaysia. I've been to Malaysia many times ... depending on who put it together ... quality issues might be a concern, if you know what I'm saying ...

I know Dell is not the end-all-be-all, but for value/performance, you really can't go wrong. Why do so many people buy Dell if they have an inferior product?

If you need a bulletproof product, need tech support, etc ... either go IBM or Apple. That's been my experience but for that, you need to pay a premium. Get what you pay for, right?

But for my $$$, I'll buy a Dell and put my savings toward my TL-S ...

It's been proven many times the world over, PEOPLE ARE STUPID. Dell the product sucks. Dell the company sucks even more.

nothing, I bought the new iBook back in October. Its a little slower processor. I only bought it to carry around and use at school. But since then I have feel in love with it and I use it as much as my PC.

my next purchase will be a G5 desktop.

I love Thinkpads (IBM). Right now for work, I have a T42 and it's by far the best laptop I have ever used. It's solid as a rock, light, fast and extremely quiet (you can never hear the hard drive).

Before I got upgraded to the T42, I had a T23 (another excellent laptop).

My parents have a Dell 700m and my gf has both a 600m and a 300m... Dell laptops are decent enough (they got amazing deals on their laptops) but overall, I much prefer Thinkpads if $$ is not a major factor.

Quality, buy IBM........Too bad they sold off their entire line to a foreign company. IBM does not make anything in the PC and/or laptop business anymore. Not that it matters, they have been doing this for years.

I found it funny that IBM is tied with Dell and they are not even in the PC business anymore.

That deal hasn't gone through yet, and it might never happen.

T42's are sweet. I have a T40 right now and I LOVE the fucking thing. Our execs get X40's, which are thin, light, small, and surprisingly fast. I used to be a Dell believer, but their shit has gone way downhill. I used to HATE IBM's, now I honestly think they are making the best laptops out there.
