itunes trouble...

Dont know if this is where i should post but here it goes...

Well, this itunes is really starting to piss me off.

My first problem is those damn gray exclamation marks that come out to the left of the song when itunes cant find the song. Everytime i turn off the pc and turn it back on, itunes always has at least 5 exclamation marks which is really annoying bc then i have to look for them manually.

My second problem is that for the past two weeks my itunes wont recognize my ipod?? Ive plugged, unplugged, yelled at it and still nothing...

As to the 2nd problem, i noticed that my computer wouldnt read my ipod after i downloaded 2 songs from my friends itunes...dont know if that has anyting to do with it...

Has anyone else had these problems? And has come up with a solution?

I have the same problem #1. A whole bunch of my mp3s were not recognized by itunes. And when I manually search for them, they just end up getting stored at the bottom of the library. itunes won't even sync them up with the rest of the others when you try to alphabetize them.

If the MP3 file moves from the location it was at when you added it to the librbary, it does that.

What I do is create a directory, then sub directories for artist - album, then track number and track name:

d:\mp3\artist - album\track ## - track title.mp3

ex: D:\MP3\A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders\03 - Award Tour.mp3

I then add these folders/files to itunes, and never move the files. If you ever chnage the directory name, file name, or path, itunes can't find it anymore, and you have to delete the tracks from your library and add them again from the new location (or the new file names)...whatever changed....

Also, go to itunes\edit\preferences\advnaced tab, and disable (uncheck) "Copy Files To iTunes Music Folder..." This way you don't have duplicate mp3s on your PC, and only one location to manage.

i dont use itunes, but how much do you guys usually spend monthly. If you spend more than 20 dollars on music a month, wouldnt it be cheaper to get Napster which has a monthly flat rate i believe?

For most people, it's too painful to put Napster music on your iPod.

I use iTunes purely as a player, I never buy from there. Nice thing is my roomate just bought airTunes for himself, but I'm (or anyone else that has access to his network and iTunes) able to use it too. It's great.

I use iTunes to strictly manage my music with my iPod, nothing more.

Couldn't help using iTunes with all those free pepsi codes floating around. I hit the 200 max limit....
