iPhone 3G/ T-Mobile Question

My question is..

I live here in the United States, however, I have family that lives in Germany. My cell phone provider is T-Mobile, and I was searching around for an unlocked iPhone (either generation). However, I came across that T-Mobile in Germany currently has the iPhone 3G. So therefore, if I were to put my USA T-mobile SIM card in the Germany T-Mobile iPhone 3G, would it work?

Now I now that T-Mobile USA does not feature 3G speeds.

I just want to be able to make phone calls, browse the internet, text, everything else (just on an iPhone basically)!

I have searched everywhere and could find an exact answer.

NOTE: Some concerns with this situation, If anyone knows:
1. Is T-Mobile Germany's SIM card the same size as USA T-Mobile?
2. It will be locked by T-Mobile Germany standards right? ( yes or no)??

Thanks for your comments and input.

All sim card are the same size in any country. im still thinking that it still needs to be unlocked though. T-mobile in Germany is most likely not the same as over here. But unlocked you should still be able to make calls but im not sure browsing the internet.
