Installing Hard Drive into your PS2...

Have anybody installed a hard drive in their PS2? I think there's a program u have to boot to to access all the back up games u install on that hard drive. Can somebody give me the instructions on how to do this?

The only downside seems to be the online gameplay. For that you need the actual game.

sooo whoa...is this like the same HD thing that you can get for the Xbox?? Meaning you rent a game, copy it to the HD and never have to buy the game or anything?? You can just get it off your HD??? SWEET!! No need to buy the new GrandTheftAuto or grandtursimo4...i'll just rent! SWEET!

Is there one i can get over 120GB? Wonder how hard it would be to install? Which would be the best websites to order from?

Go to your local retailer that sells video games and place a order on it or you can buy the final fantsy game that has the hard drive with it..

I believe they won't be selling the hard drive til September.. So you'd have to buy the game.

i actually think it comes out in a few days...what i dont understand is why: "(Sony PS2 Network adapter™ and compatible hard disk drive required)."....to use the HD....???...does that mean i actually have to plug up the ps2 to my computer and hook it up to the modem and dsl and shit and to the computers HD or somethin?? (i dont want to play online games, just wanna be able to rent games, download them, and play them....saves me the $ of buying them at $50 a pop....

so im reading the HD loader website and the how to page,
http://www.hdloader.com/cgi-bin/hdlo....pl?page=howto
it says you need a network adaptor and hard disk drive to be able to use the HD loader...does the PS2 come with a hard disk drive already in it or do i have to go buy one along with a network adaptor? (and why do we even need the network adaptor? do we have to hook up the HD to the modem or something?)...so does this mean i have to go buy a hard disk drive & a HD loader, or is the HD loader hard disk drive???

im soo confused...someone please help me....

I think that HDLoader allows you to FTP games into the harddrive via the network adapter. So you could download ripped games off of emule or other sources and play them off the drive. Thats how it typically works for Xbox mods.

what if i dont want to FTP them...what if i just want to rent them and burn them...so now i gotta buy the HD loader, the sony hard disk driver AND a network adaptor....

ok, ive been looking at the www.hdloader.com wev site and at the FAQ and How To pages and i found out some info.

Do do this whole setup...you need to buy the HD loader (basicily a cd thats just like software) then you need a actual harddrive...you could use a sony one but theose are only like 40gb...http://www.hdloader.com/cgi-bin/hdlo....pl?page=howto

("2. A suitable hard disk drive. You have two options here - the official Sony hard disk drive, or a standard IDE hard disk drive with a capacity of AT LEAST 40GB. If you use a standard IDE drive, you will need to make sure that it actually fits into your network adapter. There are a few known compatibility issues with some non-Sony hard disk drives, please see the compatibility section for more information. Both a Sony and standard IDE hard disk drive are shown below.")

and last, you need the network adaptor which basicily its only main function is to connect the HD to the PS2....from what elce i learned, to play the games you have saved on your HD, you have to have the HD Loader CD in the PS2 at all times...

a few more notes...

How many games can I store on my HDD?

This depends on both the size of your games and the size of your HDD. Lets assume that you have a 120GB HDD and the average size of your games is 2GB. 120GB / 2GB = 60 games.

I guess the HD loader is suppost to be comming out for sale on the 16th which is in a few days....

Oh, read this FAQ page, it helps alot...http://www.hdloader.com/cgi-bin/hdlo...te.pl?page=faq

Most games come on DVDR's now.. They on average are between 3-4 gbs.. So you can use a regular IDE hard drive?

"What hard disk drive would you recommend for use with HDLoader?

If you want to take the safe path, get an official Sony internal hard disk drive. These are guaranteed to work - but the capacity of the Sony drives is fixed to 40gb. If you want a larger drive capable of storing more games then we recommend that you purchase a 80 or 120 gigabyte Maxtor hard disk drive. Please keep in mind that this is only a recommendation and we cannot take any liability if you purchase a drive which is incompatible with HDLoader

Please do not email us asking if a specific HDD is supported. Obviously we cannot tell you for sure since we do not have access to every model of HDD - but we can tell you that just about all which meet the requirement of 40GB capacity are supported. We intend to prepare a list of compatible HDD's as soon as possible."

soo i wonder if this would work....http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1&type=product

If ANYONE is planning to buy the HD Loader, DONT BUY IT FROM DIVENO!!! (Diveno is one of the companys selling the HD Loader)

Ive ordered mine a week ago, was told i'd have a tracking # within 48 hrs. and my package would be to me in 4 days....Its been a week and i still dont have a tracking #!!!! I emailed the company and got a email responce saying "due to personal reasons, i cant anwser any of your questions at the time, i'll respond to you email withing a few days....

This company is bullshit....dont order from them...
