I need your help with mp3 players

Ok I need some help with figuring out my new mp3 player. I have had an ipod for almost a year now and I have loaded some of my cd's into my itunes library. Last week I bought another mp3 player made by iriver. This player uses windows media player 10 to load songs. Problem is the files the ipod uses are mpeg4 I believe. So far I haven't convinced media player 10 that it needs to add these songs to its library. Am I going to have to reload all of my cd's into media player or is there a way to make these two softwares play nice?

Be kind, I'm OLD

mpeg4 is a video file not a music file...... mp3, wma, etc are music files

i'm not sure bout the iriver, but some flash players like that are drag and drop; connect to computer, selevt folder in my computer and just copy and paste it

but if it uses windows, import files

under file, import file/document and it should be imported to your library

I have an iRiver H320 and iTunes is not compatible with iRiver's. iRiver has a forum like this if you want to check it out, go to Misticriver.net.

Actually apple's aac is a mpeg4 audio file.

Can the iriver play the aac files? If it can't you may have to either convert back to mp3 (not the best option as you will almost certainly loose sound qualitiy), or do what you said, and re rip everything.

If you bought anything on the itunes music store that you want to play on your new player, you will probably need to decrypt and re encode it into mp3. Since that is messing with the drm, it's actually illegal. Crazy world we live in makes it hard to do simple things like listen to something you bought, nutty.

If and when you re rip your albums make shure you just do it in plain old non protected mp3 and a good bitrate. I think thats the only way to ensure everything can play it. Always make shure you check your ripping options and set it up as such.

hope that is semi helpfull

Isn't it just a good idea to have Itunes rip your music as Mp3 so that if you change to a different player in the future you are good to go?

Well, if youre going to continue using both, then you need to go into your preferences in iTunes and change your import method from AAC to MPEG3.

This way, should you continue to use both players....they will now "play nice"

ipod and iriver

Sounds like I need to go into itunes and look at their options when I rip a cd. Last night I searched google for mpeg4 to mp3 converters and found some things for sale, but I don't think I will go that direction. They wanted money and I just wasn't sure it would work for me.
itunes seems to be able to gobble up my mp3 files with no problem. I'm thinking of ripping everything with media player and then letting itunes get the files.
